This month, Emmerdale turned 50, and some gritty storylines have sparked a lot of discussion among viewers. This year’s ongoing storyline involves Chas Dingle and Al Chapman’s relationship.
The affair plot, particularly Chas’ (played by Lucy Pargeter) treatment of Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and the rest of her family, has viewers threatening to stop watching the soap opera. Following a heartbreaking battle with cancer, Chas’ mother Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) recently passed away. In Thursday’s episode of the ITV soap opera, Chas promised to take him out of the village after tomorrow’s funeral, prompting some viewers to declare they would “stop watching.”
Chas left hastily to meet Al after arguing with Paddy, Moira Barton (Natalie J. Robb), and her brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) (Michael Wildman).
He had earlier instructed the married woman to call him if things became too much.
When things got difficult, the bartender didn’t think twice and set up another covert meeting with Al right away.
Chas is upset with Moira for keeping quiet about Faith’s decision to take her own life in order to end her suffering.
Chas forewarned Moira not to go to the funeral when she learned about it and stuck by her decision throughout Thursday’s episode.
She rejected Paddy’s attempts to persuade her to see sense.
She’s grieving too, Paddy said, adding. “She was sobbing so hard when she left here.”
Chas retaliated, “Crocodile tears Paddy, because she was exposed.”
Paddy argued, “No, she loved Faith,” and Chas countered, “She loved her so much that she let her kill herself.”
Faith made the decision, so we have to respect that. “She didn’t let her,” Paddy said.
“We? How does this issue affect you?” Chas yelled angrily.
Chas stormed outside as the argument went on. Later, when she saw Al, she lamented the lack of concern from her family and demanded that they depart after the service.
“I only want to leave all of this behind and get away. I’m free tomorrow, “Al heard her say.
“why not Cain doesn’t give a damn about me; his only concern is safeguarding his beloved wife.
“The last thing on Paddy’s mind is how I feel; he’s trying to sweep everything under the rug.
And we both know that when Aaron (Dingle, Danny Miller) finds out what we’re doing, he’s going to despise me.
While she was ranting, Cain could be seen attempting to contact his sister, Paddy was organizing Chas’s funeral attire, and an isolated Aaron was sitting in grief.
Following her self-centered choice, fans immediately attacked Chas and the plot.
@darciebean, a user on Twitter, wrote: “Since I’ve spent the majority of my life watching Emmerdale, I can honestly say that if Chas isn’t fired soon, I’ll have to stop. What a horrible person she has turned into.”
“I have to stop watching this for a while cannot take more of Chas she has become the most vile woman on TV,” wrote @SusanGa75213985 in response. She is now worse than Al, which I don’t like about the plot! #Emmerdale.”
“#emmerdale just having my nightly Chas hatefest,” continued @karmatarabuddha.
When did Chas become such a huge b*? “#Emmerdale?” tweeted @Bagflea75.
