All you need to know about the character’s forthcoming farewell.
Some readers may find the discussion of brain tumors in this article upsetting.
The BBC soap recently confirmed rumors that Danielle Harold’s character Lola Pearce will be given a terminal brain tumor, setting up a heartbreaking storyline in which she will pass away.
When Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) learned he had fathered a son, Dan, as a young man, Lola first appeared on EastEnders in 2011. Dan had a daughter named Lola before he passed away, so Billy is now a grandfather right away.
Billy quickly won over viewers after becoming Lola’s “Pops.” After departing the program in 2015, the character returned in 2019 with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and their young daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown). The news that Lola would pass away in the coming months shocked the fans.
But when can we anticipate seeing these horrifying scenes on screen, and why is EastEnders’ star Harold leaving? Continue reading for details on Lola’s fate that we currently know.
When will Lola die?
Lola will receive her fatal diagnosis this fall, according to EastEnders, but the first indications of her illness will appear on Monday, October 17, when she experiences a dizzy spell shortly after telling Martin Fowler (James Bye) that she and Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) are secretly getting back together.
For the first time, Harold commented on the plot: “It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that’s close to so many people’s hearts. Unfortunately, many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story, and it has been heartbreaking to speak with and hear the stories from the families affected by brain tumors.
“I’m so fortunate to have them because they’ve been so amazing about sharing their experiences with me. Without their assistance, I couldn’t carry out this plot.”
Although the date of Lola’s last episodes has not yet been determined, with the heartbreaking news imminent, perhaps it will occur by the end of the year. If you need more information before Lola leaves, keep checking this page in the upcoming weeks as we’ll provide it as soon as we can.
Why is Danielle Harold leaving EastEnders?
Following the hiring of new EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw earlier this year, there were rumors that Lola’s fate would be decided as part of a “cast cull.” We still don’t know for sure whether actress Star Harold decided to leave her role or whether the writing staff decided to write her out.
She did, however, talk to the Daily Star at this year’s British Soap Awards about her love of the show and her future plans.
“EastEnders has played a significant role in my life, but I’m eager to begin a new endeavor. I want to work on and portray different roles in other projects. I’m eager to explore my options in the real world. A drama that has a beginning, middle, and end would be something I’d love to work on.
“I want to pursue a completely distinct endeavor from making soap. I’d also love to resume acting in some movies.”
Harold also said “A soap opera is the best place to train. It moves so quickly, and the amount of effort you put forth is insane. The soap opera actors are incredible. There is no place I could have learned in better.”
