All the news and theories ahead of the character’s exit.
After nine years of playing Mick Carter, Danny Dyer announced in January that he had made the decision to leave EastEnders. After nearly ten years of nonstop drama, the landlord of the Queen Vic will retire later this year, but we’re still largely in the dark about how he will do it.
Late last year, Mick and his soulmate Linda (Kellie Bright) broke up because of disagreements over Linda’s infant daughter Annie, whom she had after having an affair with Max Branning (Jake Wood) that we’d all prefer to forget! However, Mick is still unaware that his current girlfriend Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) deliberately caused their breakup by stirring the pot and encouraging Linda to resume drinking.
Recently, Mick has experienced relative peace while those around him have experienced greater conflict. Despite this, Mick has remained a pillar of the neighborhood behind the bar. But how might the beloved character leave our screens if a “explosive” exit is on the way?
As we explore every possibility, RadioTimes.com has all the information you require.
When is Danny Dyer leaving EastEnders?
Over Christmas 2022, Danny Dyer will leave his position as Mick Carter on EastEnders.
Mick is rumored to be leaving before Christmas, and Dyer himself hinted as much in the spring when he told The Sun: “Maybe Christmas will see its release. There isn’t a better show on television when they get it right.”
There are two months left, and I didn’t take this decision lightly, the star told the Evening Standard while speaking at the British Soap Awards in June.
According to scenes captured by The Sun, Dyer will be seen being filmed leaping off a cliff into the waters below as a car crashes through a clifftop.
While filming as Linda Carter there, Kellie Bright was covered in blood. Mick, have you jumped in to save Linda?
Charlie Brooks was spotted filming alongside them as Janine Butcher appeared to be about to be made public while kneeing Mick in the crotch.
Is this Janine’s grand exit as well? Other pictures show her attempting to flee the scene.
Will Mick Carter die?
Mick Carter appears to be in danger of drowning after scaling the cliff to save Linda.
Has Janine Butcher claimed her most recent victim, if so?
Death is a possibility, says Dyer, regardless. There has been discussion about what we’re going to do, the actor told The Sun. I could die, or I could live. I just want to leave on a grand, epic note. In the back of a cab is not where I want to be.
Because of my high cholesterol, I don’t want a heart attack. Going out is something I want to do so that people will talk about it. So, yes, it will be enormous. This indicates that, if Dyer gets his way, Mick’s death won’t be a peaceful one.
However, this rumor was unavoidable and doesn’t necessarily portend Mick’s demise. The possibility of his return has also been raised by him: “Let me tell you something – Mick’s exit is going to be a very, very powerful thing.
“I wish the door could stay open, and from what I can tell, it is. Who knows, then. Will you take me back if I try out there and fail miserably? I can ask when I come back with my tail between my legs.”
Mick Carter exit theories
There are a lot of different ways that Mick’s exit storyline could develop. If the character experiences a shocking death, the star warned, he might find himself unable to ever return.
Will Mick actually pass away in this manner? It appears that the love triangle with Janine and Linda will end with lives in danger.
This would also serve as a tragic callback to one of Mick’s earliest storylines, as he developed a fear of the water as a result of his mother Shirley trying to drown him when he was a child, nearly drowning him.
Mick eventually overcame his apprehensions and mastered swimming. So, could he use these abilities to save Linda before meeting an untimely demise?
But we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Mick won’t actually turn into “brown bread,” as he might put it!
What if Mick is “lost at sea” and his fate is not clear? This would leave room for a possible return in the Harold Bishop vein.
Bright, a co-star, has already stated that she has no plans to leave EastEnders, but we find it hard to imagine Linda without Mick, and soap operas are notorious for shocking viewers. So, could she accompany him to a sunset conclusion? This doesn’t necessarily have to result in the black cab Dyer wants to avoid, and it could still be “epic.”
Of course, leaving Mick behind alone would be the sadder scenario, but where would he go? After his recent visit with his mother Shirley (Linda Henry), might he decide to relocate abroad, perhaps to visit relative Zsa Zsa?
Whatever transpires, Mick Carter’s dependable charm will be sorely missed!
