David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) has really been through the ringer lately, so it is no surprise when he gets drunk and tries to kiss Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) in a new Coronation Street spoiler video.
Over the past few months, David has tried and failed to keep son Max Turner (Paddy Bever) on the straight and narrow, after he was groomed into joining an extremist far-right group.
Now, he is struggling with the fact that Max has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for encouraging terrorism, and has refused to see his dad during that time.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, David is rocked by the news that Max has been beaten up inside.
Completely powerless, David turns to drinking in order to numb his feelings.
Maria finds him in the community garden and, concerned, offers him a friendly ear.
The pair reminisce over their long friendship, having worked together for several year, as Maria attempts to comfort David over Max.
She reminds him what a good father he has been, and that they will get through this.
David misreads the signals completely and ends up leaning in to kiss her.
Stunned, Maria pulls away before he can do anything, and David instantly realises what he has done.
He is struck with guilt over his actions, knowing that wife Shona (Julia Goulding) would be destroyed if she found out.
Will David tell her about the near kiss, or will it stay a secret between the two friends?
