This week on Emmerdale, Bernice secures a new position, Naomi’s efforts to assist April appear to be going in the wrong direction, and Kim makes it clear to Gabby that a romance with Nicky is off-limits.
Bernice (Samantha Giles), who has chosen to reclaim control of her life by deciding to begin HRT as she experiences the menopause, is more motivated than ever to look for a more fulfilling goal.
Bernice admitted to Liam (Jonny McPherson) on New Year’s Eve that she didn’t like working at Pampamanda as an employee because she used to own it and that, although she was trying to start a menopause support group as part of her community service, it was time for her to focus on her career.
Soon after Pollard (Christopher Chittell) and Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) discussed their travel plans, an opportunity became apparent. Bernice had assumed that Pollard’s son David (Matthew Wolfenden) would be taking over at the B&B, but Pollard acknowledged that he didn’t think his son was quite ready for the position now that his own shop is up for sale. Quickly springing to her feet, Bernice offered her services.
This week, Bernice is hard at work strategizing what she could do with the B&B if given the chance, while Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is shocked to learn of Brenda and Pollard’s intention to retire.
Bernice quickly persuades Pollard that she is the best candidate for the position, and she is overjoyed when he finally gives in and offers her the job.
As Bernice appoints Bob as her assistant, the two exchange ideas about their plans for the company, but Bernice is abruptly brought back to reality by a bump.
After announcing her resignation to Mandy (Lisa Riley), Bernice is taken aback when Mandy demands that she give a one-month notice. Already experiencing a decline in business, Mandy may have to shut down the salon completely.
When Bernice then hatches a plan to steal Wendy (Susan Cookson) and Bob’s clientele from the salon, Mandy is enraged and decides to immediately fire Bernice! Bernice is content, though, because everything went according to plan!
April (Amelia Flanagan), meanwhile, is still depressed about the entire Arthur (Alfie Clarke) situation. April was shocked when Arthur was forced to admit that he is gay after she had initially been hurt by his rejection.
Whilst April had no problem with this, and was quick to show her support, it still dented her confidence.
In Naomi (Karene Peter), who has recently begun helping April’s father Marlon (Mark Charnock) as he resumes work in the kitchen at The Woolpack, April finds a new confidante. Although Naomi is able to give April some much-needed self-confidence, April’s interactions with Marlon and her stepmother Rhona (Zoe Henry) are less than ideal.
The two are frustrated with the 13-year-old, and when Rhona notices that April has bright nail polish on, she accuses her of being influenced by Naomi.
Naomi confronts Rhona in The Woolpack after hearing what she has been saying. The two women begin to argue as Marlon stands by, helplessly caught in the middle.
Will Naomi’s attempt to assist April completely backfire? Nicola, who is still resentful of Naomi for her passive role in the assault on her last year, learns of the most recent developments.
Additionally, Nicky (Lewis Cope) is settling into his new position caring for the children at Home Farm, but will his choice of employer make him regret it?
While she and Dawn (Olivia Bromley) were vying for a position on the estate’s new stud farm, Gabby was more than happy to hire the hot nanny—and not just for the abilities listed on his resume. Gabby, however, is unimpressed when Kim explicitly states that the idea of any romance is off-limits this week and warns her off Nicky.
Meanwhile, Dawn and Billy (Jay Kontzle) are overjoyed that Nicky is getting along so well with the children. There was a lot of concern about bringing a stranger into the home because Clemmie (Mabel Addison) has had a difficult year and it could lead to more unrest.
Dawn regrets missing out on all the fun the kids have been having while she is at work because her initial concerns about hiring a nanny are still niggling at her.
Dawn is getting ready for a big meeting when she quickly becomes guilty about missing Clemmie’s swimming, which prompts her to take drastic action.
When Kim finds out about her stepdaughter’s plan, she is enraged, and as the two argue, things quickly get heated. Will Dawn soon blow a significant opportunity?
