This week on Emmerdale, Liam’s three Christmas dinners end with a romantic encounter, Greg threatens to ruin Ethan’s reputation, and Paddy makes a costly mistake.
After finding it difficult to refuse the kindness of his fellow villagers, newly single Liam (Jonny McPherson) takes Christmas overindulgence to a whole new level on Sunday.
Liam, who supported by friends after his divorce from wife Leyla, has found himself agreeing to no less than three Christmas lunches, seemingly having not learned from the annual replay of a certain holiday sitcom classic (Roxy Shahidi).
As the festivities begin, Liam heads over to the Dingles where he tries his best to pace himself, knowing that he has two more lunches to get through, but he’s unable to turn down the food offered to him.
Liam then makes his way to Holdgate Farm to accept Rishi’s (Bhasker Patel) invitation to dine with him, Priya (Fiona Wade), and Amba (Ava Jayasinghe). He is shocked to see a massive spread set out on the table, and as he realizes he has no chance of keeping things light, his heart begins to sink.
After a while, Liam returns to the village after becoming thoroughly stuffed from food and drink. There, he meets Bernice (Samantha Giles), who informs him that they have saved him some food. Indeed, once inside, Liam discovers himself in front of a sizable plateful and feels as though there is only one thing he can do.
The Anderson family is currently savoring the holiday cheer as Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) fulfills her wish to spend Christmas with Charles (Kevin Mathurin) in their brand-new house, Woodfold Cottage. The couple enjoys Christmas dinner with Naomi (Karene Peter), Ethan (Emile John), and Marcus (Darcy Gray) despite the fact that the sale only went through a few days ago and the house is largely empty after borrowing a table and chairs from Jimmy (Nick Miles).
Ethan later borrows the church’s PA system and sets it up outside David’s store with some disco lights in an effort to spread holiday cheer. Soon after, a street party starts up!
Someone not feeling up to the celebrations though is Leyla.
Having originally planned on seeing son Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) and David (Matthew Wolfenden), she was disappointed to find out that they would instead be spending time celebrating at a hotel with Eric (Chris Chittell), Brenda (Lesley Dunlop), Theo (Beau Ronnie Newton) and the twins Heath & Cathy (Gabrielle & Sebastian Dowling).
Leyla told David that she and Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) were planning on a day of pampering rather than admitting she would be spending Christmas alone.
Leyla shuts the door at Tug Ghyll behind her as the joyful celebrations of her neighbors can be heard in the background as she begins her pathetic Christmas dinner for one.
A rather bloated Liam spends time with Bernice at Brook Cottage. A spark develops between them as the drinks flow (we’re sure he could use a digestif or two), and the two kiss!
In the coming week…
As Paddy (Dominic Brunt) struggles to maintain order following the dissolution of his marriage and learning of Chas’s (Lucy Pargeter) affair with the late Al Chapman (Michael Wildman). Paddy is horrified when he accidentally overdoses Vinny’s (Bradley Johnson) dog Chip on sedatives because his stress levels are rising.
Chip has been Vinny’s post to lean on since the death of his wife Liv (Isobel Steel)—will the canine companion make it through?
Later, Paddy sits in his car in despair and breaks down…
Plus, Ethan’s complaint about his sleazy boss Greg (Daniel Betts) comes back to bite him, when the lawyer threatens to ruin Ethan’s reputation unless he withdraws the allegation.
After learning that Marcus had groped and made a pass at Marcus, Ethan wasted no time in filing a complaint with the law firm’s partners.
After learning that Marcus had groped and made a pornographic statement, Ethan wasted no time in filing a complaint with the law firm’s partners. Then, when Marcus starts to get a lot of negative feedback about his company, Ethan decides he needs to confront Greg.
