Tyrone’s wedding preparations are derailed this week on Coronation Street when Fiz collapses, Todd intervenes, and the Platt household erupts into chaos.
The time has come for Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) to walk down the aisle as Christmas Day dawns on Coronation Street. not that Fiz is aware of it!
A secret wedding for the two of them has been planned by Tyrone since he proposed to Fiz a few short weeks ago, knowing that she dreaded having to plan another ceremony just six months after her last one.
Tyrone has purposefully downplayed any mention of Christmas while their daughters Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Macy Alabi), as well as numerous friends and family members, have all contributed to the effort.
“So Fiz is planning the perfect Christmas,” At a recent press conference, Jennie revealed to EverySoap and other media. “Their first Christmas together again following all the things we won’t talk about (such as Phill), and she just wants a day like those you see in those supermarket adverts.
“Then Tyrone says ‘Maybe we won’t have Christmas dinner, why don’t we just get a pizza?’ So that’s not good.”
When the family opens their Christmas morning presents, things take a further turn for the worse. While the girls play on their new console, Tyrone keeps it cool and grinned in secret while Fiz is unimpressed.
“Fiz gets him a really special Weatherfield County present, which she’s thought really carefully about. And he gets her… well…” Jen trails off. “It’s not about the money you know, it’s the thought that counts… but there’s literally no thought that goes into this present!”
“This is one of those moments,” Alan adds, “where I read the script of what Tyrone bought Fiz on Christmas day, and I must admit I burst out laughing. Then we tried to film it… and we burst out laughing again. It’s horrendous really, it’s a terrible present!”
The gift in question is a keyring and a box of discounted chocolates that still has the half-price sale sticker on it.
The gift in question is a keyring and a box of discounted chocolates that still has the half-price sale sticker on it. Unknown to Tyrone and the girls, Fiz then decides to leave in an effort to save the day. They discover a note on the table explaining that she has left to fetch the more traditional Christmas fare when they come down the stairs in their wedding attire ready to surprise Fiz.
“She storms off, thinking if you want pizza you can have pizza, but I’m having a turkey!” Jen explains, “So she goes off to find one in the middle of nowhere…”
Tyrone dials Fiz’s phone in a panic only to discover that she left it at home.
What is Tyrone contemplating now?
“Well of course, he hasn’t thought about this… that’s the point,” Alan laughs. “He clearly thought that everything was going to go really smoothly, and we all know that’s not the case.”
“So he’s thinking ‘What do I do next… I’ve got people giving up their Christmas days to spend it with us at our wedding… I can’t get hold of Fiz… are we going to get married in time?‘”
“Everything’s rushing through his head, because he hasn’t thought of any eventuality other than it all going exactly how he wanted it to!”
Tyrone is instructed to proceed to the Chariot Square Hotel, where the wedding will take place, by Chesney (Sam Brown) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell, while Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) wait for Fiz’s arrival at Number 9.
Meanwhile, Fiz is in trouble after her car breaks down on a lonely country road. She has no phone, so she must go on foot to get assistance.
Tyrone’s grand gesture appears to have failed miserably as he is forced to inform the waiting guests that it appears that the wedding has been postponed as everyone heads to the Rovers for the buffet.
But when Fiz comes across a lone walker, the curiously named Chris Pringle (Kenneth Hadley)—who’s dressed in a red coat, with specs, a white beard and some Nordic walking poles—she explains her predicament.
Will Chris be Fiz’s saviour?
Other residents of the street reach their breaking point, including Max (Paddy Bever), who is fed up with Shona’s (Julia Goulding) and David’s (Jack P Shepherd) disapproval of right-wing activist Griff (Michael Condron).
The three people join the extended family, which includes Audrey (Sue Nicholls), Stephen (Todd Boyce), Gail (Helen Worth), Nick (Ben Price), Leanne (Jane Danson), Sam (Jude Riordan), Lily (Brooke Malonie), and Toyah, for a special Christmas lunch at the bistro (Georgia Taylor).
When Max opens his gift and discovers a cutting-edge video editing program, he is overjoyed. However, the mood quickly deteriorates when David makes a joke about Griff.
Before storming out, Max quickly defends Griff, leaving David to second-guess his statement.
Later, at the Christmas market, when David notices Max chatting with Griff, his resentment flares, and he tries to yank Max away. But when Max informs David that he despises him and is moving in with Griff, David is taken aback!
Later that week, as Max was getting settled in his new house, Griff asked him to make some additional edits to their propaganda video. Meanwhile, Toyah issues a stern warning to David after learning the whole truth about Griff and his associates from Spider (Martin Hancock), who revealed himself to be an undercover police officer.
As Toyah begs David to get Max away from Griff, David is shaken.
He’s a very perilous individual.
Also next week, Todd (Gareth Pierce) and Laurence’s relationship at Number 11 remains tense (Robert Shaw Cameron). Todd has been secretly smitten with Sean’s (Antony Cotton) dentist boyfriend, but up until now, he has resisted acting on it.
Todd struggles to control his jealousy when Sean informs the family that he, Laurence, and Dylan (Liam McCheyne) are going to the Peaks overnight. Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and George notice Todd’s struggle (Tony Maudsley).
The day after they get back, Laurence meets with Todd alone and tells him that it’s obvious he doesn’t like him, but he’d like the chance to change that. After sharing a bottle of wine, Todd begins to feel more comfortable around Laurence.
Todd suddenly leans in for a kiss as Laurence turns to walk away!
The next day, Todd apologises to Sean for coming onto Laurence, but Sean is angry when Todd suggests that the flirting was mutual.
But when Todd hears Rita (Barbara Knox) and Mary (Patti Clare) discussing Lindsey’s death, remembering how it was pretty big news at the time, Todd is intrigued and decides to investigate… what will Todd discover?
Todd is intrigued and decides to look into Lindsey’s death after overhearing Rita (Barbara Knox) and Mary (Patti Clare) talking about how it was quite a big story at the time. What is Todd going to learn?
