And now, EastEnders viewers want a certain character to come back so he can help fill the void.
It’s simple to forget how huge the Carter family truly is with all the turns and exits.
Linda Carter, however, is the only survivor of her family in Walford when her husband Mick vanished, leaving just Shirley and her children.
Fans of the BBC One soap opera have requested the return of her adult children as a result.
One viewer wrote on a Digital Spy forum, “Linda truly needs one of her children back permanently.”
Many viewers wanted Danny Hatchard’s Lee Carter to return, while a small percentage of them thought Johnny should return to the Square.
They don’t anticipate Sam Strike or Ted Reilly to take on the role they formerly played, though.
One supporter said, “I’d happily see Johnny return with a nice recast.”
Another concurred: “Although Johnny 1 was excellent, I can see why he had to be recast. He had so much potential, so it’s a shame it didn’t work.”
“Perhaps a third actor could be good if the right one chosen.”
“All the Original Three. Ideally Sam as Johnny but recast to a strong actor”, a soap fan echoed before adding: “as a character I would like to see Johnny get some development and storylines.”
Another viewer wrote: “Lee or Johnny as we haven’t seen them in a while.”
“Wouldn’t mind seeing Johnny as a successful, middle class lawyer. Just don’t have him come in and break up Ben and Callum.”
Since Nancy’s separation with Zack Hudson, Linda has already had to deal with her departure.
Frankie Lewis, Mick’s daughter, just left the Square as well.
On the other side, Johnny Carter wasn’t seen in Walford again until Ted Reilly took over the part in 2018.
When the character eventually made it back home in 2016, he discovered Dean Wicks had sexually assaulted his mother Linda while he was away from the borough.
Johnny had previously resided in Italy with his ex-boyfriend Gianluca, but after they broke up, he relocated to Manchester.
Could he come back to support Linda, ahead of a brand new chapter?
