Ten years after leaving Walford, SID OWEN is returning to the BBC One serial opera EastEnders as his beloved Ricky Butcher.
Ricky Butcher from EastEnders, played by Sid Owen, is the father of Liam and Tiffany Butcher and is most known for his contentious relationship with Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) (Maisie Smith). While residing in Walford, Ricky experienced his fair share of difficulties, including his numerous affairs and family problems. After mourning the passing of his grandmother Pat Butcher (Pam St. Clement), Ricky departed Walford in 2012 and moved to Germany. The well-known figure will now return to the BBC series and cause turmoil among the locals, including sister Janine Butcher (Charlie Brookes) and ex-boyfriend Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf).
Speaking candidly about playing the Walford mechanic once more, he said he is “delighted” to be returning to the soap.
He replied, “I’m happy to be back at EastEnders,” when asked about his homecoming. I’m eager to learn what Ricky Butcher has been up to recently.
“[And] how he’s going to respond to running into some old flames and familiar faces. I can’t wait to watch how the drama plays out.
Ricky will soon see his on-screen sister Janine again after she returned to the venerable soap opera last year as one of its most infamous villains.
The endearing rogue will also come face to face with Sam, her ex-wife, after she starts to encroach on the empire of her brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
Chris Clenshaw, the executive producer of EastEnders, welcomed Sid back to the role of Ricky Butcher and stated of his return: “It is a real pleasure.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Sid back for a time. He helped develop such an iconic character in Ricky who became so synonymous with the program.
While a lot of time has gone since we last saw Ricky, it’s safe to say that wherever he goes, he always ends up right in the thick of mayhem. Ricky has so much history in the Square to discover.
Since the character’s homecoming has only been reported, no official air date has yet been established.
Viewers observed Janine phone Ricky a few months ago, pleading with him for cash so she could recoup the money she had stolen from Nancy Carter (Maddy Hill).
Could Janine simply be luring her brother back under false pretenses given her behavior and cunning ways?
Ricky might start dating Sam once more, but is he thinking of something else when he returns to the Square?
The Sun received the following insider information: “Bosses have a fascinating storyline prepared for his homecoming, involving several important people.
“Ricky is a legendary figure from Albert Square’s early days who has had tremendous popularity throughout the years. He still needs to complete a lot of tasks.
“For scriptwriters, there are no boundaries. There will be a bountiful crop of stories this fall.”
Although Ricky’s plot is being kept a secret, it will undoubtedly be explosive.
The Sun reports that Sid will start filming his first intense sequences early next month and that he will have a significant part to play whenever he returns.
British actor Navin Chowdhry has also joined the cast; he will appear in EastEnders for the first time as the patriarch Nish Panesar, who has spent the past twenty years in prison.
“It’s been amazing, everyone has been lovely,” he said. The Panesar family has been the focus of my current position, but everyone has been incredibly welcome.
“Working on a program like EastEnders has been a new experience for me, but I enjoyed the stories and I’ve developed a deep interest in this family since there’s so much going on all the time,” the actor said.
