After two grueling mont
hs of fighting breast cancer, EastEnders star Sam Womack made a stunning comeback yesterday.
Sam Womack, a longtime Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders, recently received a breast cancer diagnosis that required her to go through a traumatic round of chemotherapy. She acknowledged that it had been a “rough couple of months” as she celebrated her 50th birthday by doing one of her favorite things—performing for an audience.
In the theatrical adaptation of the Narnia story The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe last night, Sam made her spectacular West End comeback as the White Witch.
She assured the world she was now “back to work” at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre, assuaging the fears of her fans who had been waiting impatiently for news about her health.
It’s been a difficult couple of months, but I am blessed to be back, she proclaimed with pride.
Rita Simons, who portrayed her on-screen sister Roxy on EastEnders, dubbed her a “warrior” as she joined the numerous admirers in congratulating her on reaching this significant milestone – the first since learning of her health news.
Wishing you a happy birthday, my other half. #PrincessWarrior, @samzjanus loves you and is so proud of you “On Instagram, she posted.
On the app, Glynis Barber, the couple’s on-screen mother, adopted the persona of a proud parent by gushing, “My babies are all grown up!”
Sam had posted her initial health update on Instagram over the summer, along with a tribute to Olivia Newton John, who tragically passed away at age 73 from the same disease.
She posted a picture of a night out she had with the other actress, thinking back: “The most magical of evenings, indeed!
Following their performance of Grease in London, Olivia and [her daughter] Chloe joined us for dinner.
She was my childhood, and I was thrilled and amazed.
And she concluded: “I now begin my own fight against this illness and am profoundly moved. #OliviaNewtonJohn.”
Sam asserts that she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of going back to Albert Square, despite the fact that her character drowned after getting entangled in her own wedding gown.
But as of right now, she will continue playing the White Witch in theater productions until the end of the London run in January.
She admitted that she generally prefers theater roles to television ones because the former gives the aspirational actress more “creative control.”
