The following week on Emmerdale, Cain receives a strange phone call, Marcus must spend the night with Ethan’s boss, and will Kyle tell PC Swirling the whole truth?
Natalie J. Robb and Natalie Jamieson’s characters Moira and Amy are still on edge as they fret about Kyle being a loose cannon (Huey Quinn). Since they returned to the village from Belfast a few weeks ago, it has become obvious that Kyle is getting closer and closer to telling the wrong person his killer secret.
Kyle broke down in the visitors room last week after insisting on going to see his father Cain (Jeff Hordley) in jail. He couldn’t help but sob as he apologized and took responsibility for Cain’s situation.
Thank goodness Amy and Cain were able to calm Kyle down. however, it was a close call because he had attracted the attention of the prison guards. down before he said too much.
The family has the opportunity to enjoy some holiday cheer in the village at the stroke charity fundraiser—God knows they deserve it after all the stress of recent weeks—but because of Kyle’s unpredictable behavior, Amy and Moira worry about letting him out of their sight for even a brief moment.
The ladies decide to try to put their worries aside and bring Kyle and Isaac to the event, where everyone is enjoying Charles’s (Kevin Mathurin) specially formed choir’s performance.
The two are shocked to see Kyle talking to someone dressed as Santa Claus after briefly losing Kyle. If Kyle wasn’t asking PC Mike Swirling (Andy Whitaker) about Cain, that wouldn’t be so bad in and of itself.
Before Kyle can reveal too much, Moira and Amy pounce on what might be their worst nightmare.
PC Swirling, however, is suspicious of their response and wonders what might be motivating their troubling behavior.
Back at Butlers Farm, Moira and Amy try to interrogate Kyle on exactly what he said, but they only end up upsetting him further.
Moira tries to assure Amy that if they can give Kyle a Christmas he’ll never forget, he will be able to return to some normality. But as Amy struggles to pull herself together, Moira is beginning to have her doubts.
Meanwhile, in the prison, an officer hands Cain a letter—it seems someone has been writing to him frequently. But once the officer is out of sight, Cain rips up the letter, evidently not interested in what the mysterious person has to say.
Moira visits Cain in prison to see if he has any idea who sent Kyle and Isaac their Christmas presents after they later receive them from an unidentified sender. Evidently Cain is aware of something, but he keeps his worries from Moira.
Later, Cain receives a card from his late mother Faith that Moira had brought in with her (Sally Dexter). Cain requests permission to make a phone call from the guard because he isn’t yet ready to read what Faith has said. When the guard promises to see what he can do, Cain becomes anxious.
Cain is not pleased with the unknown caller when he finally receives a call. As the prison guard keeps watch, Cain must lower his voice, but when he overhears a refusal on the other end, he is forced to slam the phone down.
Caleb (Will Ash), the long-lost brother of Cain and Chas (Lucy Pargeter), is scheduled to arrive in the village on Christmas; could Could this person be the one Cain is speaking to?
