The following week on Coronation Street, Jacob’s father will visit, Summer will reveal the truth regarding her miscarriage, and Fiz will be perplexed when she sees Gemma dressed in a wedding gown!
Aaron (James Craven) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) are finally forced to tell Mike (Tom Lorcan) and Esther the truth about the baby, which ends their game (Vanessa Hehir).
Summer tragically miscarried two weeks ago. The teen couple had agreed to an illegal plan to give their unwanted child to Mike and Esther, who have had difficulty conceiving naturally and were willing to pay handsomely for the privilege.
Summer has been reluctant to tell the couple that she has already received £10,000, which she used to send Aaron’s father into rehab because she is afraid it will break their hearts (not to mention that she is currently unable to pay the money back!).
They agree to wait outside when Mike and Esther insist on dropping Summer off at the hospital for her scan. By buying time inside the hospital, Aaron and Summer continue their ruse. However, they are taken aback when Mike unexpectedly shows up because he has changed his mind and now wants to attend the scan.
Summer and Aaron take a deep breath as they get ready to tell Mike the truth because they have nowhere else to run.
Summer calls Billy (Daniel Brocklebank), Todd (Gareth Pierce), and Paul (Peter Ash) and asks if they can help her and Aaron raise £10k so they can go traveling for a year. Now that she and Aaron are left with £10,000 to find from somewhere, Summer plays another game of deception. The plans, however, raise doubt in the minds of the three men.
With one major caveat, however, it appears that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Summer and Aaron. If Summer agrees to serve as their surrogate, Mike and Esther declare that they would be willing to forget about the money entirely and even give them more!
Billy is determined to stop the scheme once he learns about it, but Mike reminds him that Summer should decide whether to participate or not. How will Summer respond as Billy makes threats to call the police and report Mike and Esther?
When Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) tells Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) that she has discovered a lump on her breast, Jenny is understandably concerned.
Daisy tells her partner Daniel (Rob Mallard) the news on Jenny’s advice. Daniel is understandably upset because he recently lost his wife Sinead, the mother of his son Bertie, to cervical cancer.
“It’s his worst nightmare that it would either happen to him or someone else that he cares about,” Rob reveals “Then doubly worse this is someone that Bertie is growing closer to, a second chance of a mother figure for him and yet again this woman he loves might be struck down with cancer. It triggers all of the possible responses you might expect.“
“It’s quite a selfish response, you think I’ve been through this once and I can’t do it again because you know what’s going to happen, you know what each of you are going to go through,” Rob continues. “When you’ve not been through it before it’s almost easier, because you don’t know what’s round the corner, but when you’ve been through it before and you know exactly what each step is going to be like, the knowledge of that is almost worse than going through it again and it just makes him want to run away.“
In an effort to appear brave, Daniel tells Daisy he will meet her at the hospital for her appointment. However, things don’t go as planned when Daniel ends up in the Rovers looking for some dutch courage.
Rob explains, “He does something that all Barlows seem to do, and he gets smashed. “Getting Barlowed,” I think there’s even a term for it.
He doesn’t mean to; he had intended to meet her at the doctor’s office, but because he is so anxious, he ends up in the bar drinking whiskey. Daniel is a lightweight, so he reasoned that if I had something powerful, it would help me to become composed enough to handle it. But he keeps going until it is clear that he is intoxicated.
“Then the thing that was supposed to give him courage ends up being another reason why he can’t turn up.“
Daniel announces to everyone that Daisy might have cancer as he stumbles out the door. Jenny is horrified when she realizes that Daniel let Daisy down. In the gardens, where Peter (Chris Gascoyne) gives Daniel a pep talk and convinces him that he must be there for Daisy, Daniel continues to drink despite realizing he is now too inebriated to support Daisy.
Daniel, who is now determined, cautiously makes his way to the hospital.
After receiving his brief pep talk from Peter in the garden, he initially believes he can pull it off and kind of forgets how much alcohol he has consumed, according to Rob. He believes he has regained his focus because Peter has assured him that he can succeed, but the combination of the outside air and alcohol makes it abundantly clear that he has consumed far too much alcohol.
When an inebriated Daniel bursts through the door after Daisy had gone to her appointment alone, Daisy is not overly impressed.
As you would after being embarrassed in such a serious situation, Rob continues, “She understandably tells him to leave. “He hasn’t stepped up for her, which is not what she needs. It’s a reliable predictor of how someone will behave in the future and how they will respond to pressure of that nature.
“It’s simple to imagine a scenario and promise to support you or to be strong, but what really matters is how a person responds in the real world. She may interpret this as an evaluation of Daniel’s character and conclude that he is perhaps not strong enough for her.
Will Daisy reevaluate her relationship with Daniel as a result of the incident, regardless of how Daisy’s scare turns out?
Additionally, the following week, Tyrone (Alan Halsall), who has chosen to surprise Fiz with a wedding on Christmas Day, reveals his intentions to Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Abi (Sally Carman). But when Tyrone goes on to show what he and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) have chosen for Fiz, Abi immediately says that Fiz will detest it.
As Beth (Lisa George) begins to pin the dress after she agrees to make some alterations, Gemma models it for her. but Fiz happened to walk in on them!
Fiz is very confused, what on earth is going on?
Additionally, Jacob is horrified when his father Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) calls out to him as he is walking down Victoria Street.
Despite Damon’s claims that he is just passing through and wants to say hello, a resentful Jacob is quick to direct him. Is Damon intending to cause mischief?
