Michelle Collins has responded to those who have criticized her for marrying a man who is 22 years her junior.
After ten years of dating Mike Davidson, 38, the 60-year-old EastEnders star wed him in August.
Collins has responded to the relationship’s detractors on social media, though.
She penned: “I’m so sick of people who are enamored with their age. It is others who care about it, not me. It’s only a number, age.”
The actor also cited a Richard Gere quote, which read: “Although I am old, my heart is young. We always carry the same years in our souls, and I am aware that this is the ideal age. We can live in each year because they are all unique and precious. Age is a privilege that not everyone has, so don’t regret it.”
Collins has previously criticized those who refer to her as a “cougar” due to the age gap.
2018 saw her say: “Mike is 22 years my junior, and people think I’m a predator. I’m irritated by it. He’s referred to as my toyboy beau. God help us, he’s almost 35.”
Added her: “It’s funny now, but it still irritates me. I also detest the word “cougar.” It drives me crazy. I think it’s so humiliating. A cougar is a predator that prowls the area looking for fresh meat. I’m not at all like that.”
Collins and Davidson started dating in 2012 after being set up on a date by the EastEnders actor’s niece. They got married in August of this year.
Collins has never been married before, despite having a daughter from a previous relationship with Fabrizio Tassalini, who was born in 1996.
In 1998, Collins made her final EastEnders appearance as Cindy Beale. She has since played a regular part in Coronation Street and made appearances in Casaulty, Doctor Who, and Death in Paradise.
