As his waxwork was unveiled, the David Platt actor and his proud family spoke to The ECHO.
The mother of Jack P. Shepherd from Coronation Street broke down in tears as her son met his “double.”
The soap opera actor is well-known for playing David Platt in the enduring ITV program. His legendary status was confirmed yesterday when Madame Tussauds in Blackpool permanently immortalized him with a waxwork figure.
The well-known tourist destination features a wax reproduction of Ken Barlow from the soap opera Rovers Return. When the David Platt actor first saw the finished version of his wax figure, he said he was “honored” to join such esteemed company.
The 34-year-old admitted to the ECHO that she was both thrilled and terrified. Everyone in the world is familiar with Madame Tussauds, so entering it is absurd.
Jack was “blown away” by how precisely the sculptor captured David Platt’s appearance in the wax figure, which is dressed in an authentic David Platt costume from the show. My mother said they’ve got your lazy eye down to a tee, he joked. I find looking at eyes to be rather uncomfortable because they are so realistic.
“It seems as though you are seeing yourself in the mirror. It’s strange. Jack, who had kept the project a secret for over a year, was overjoyed to learn that he was similar to two famous people in the entertainment industry.
“They had identical hair and eyes when I sat down. You can take it as a compliment that you have Leonardo Di Caprio’s hair, they said. You also share Justin Bieber’s eye color.”
Hanni Treweek, Jack’s girlfriend, swooned with pride when the wax sculpture was revealed. I adore Hailey Bieber’s style, and I have nothing but praise for Leonardo DiCaprio’s hair, the woman said.
“It was incredible. Although I had seen the early stages and photographs, the waxwork was incredibly lifelike. It’s amazing, and Jack deserves so much praise.
Janet, Jack’s mother, wept during the unveiling because she was “overwhelmed” by seeing the figure for the first time. She said to the ECHO: “I’m looking over there at Jack and Vera Duckworth – and thinking Jack is now part of these legends. It’s just astonishing.
You can underline “proud” six or seven times before you feel dizzy. When Jack joined the Corrie cast in 2000, he was only 12 years old. Janet said the family never imagined the character would become so well-known.
We never imagined in our wildest dreams that he would be in Madame Tussauds 22 years later, she said. You simply don’t imagine it because it never occurs, but it has and it is magical.
The next addition to the Corrie exhibition will be David Platt’s wax sculpture, according to Kyle Woodcock, attractions manager at Madame Tussauds. “We always try to stay as up to date as possible, and we’re appealing to the younger generation,” he said.
“The character of David in Coronation Street is just enormous and so relevant to the current generation. When we looked at Coronation Street, there was no other option; David had to be there.
