Following the brutal death of Al Chapman, Cain Dingle’s future in Emmerdale is now uncertain.
Tuesday’s episode (1 November 2022) revealed that Al (Michael Wildman) had been shot to death, and Al’s girlfriend Kerry Wyatt later saw Cain (Jeff Hordley) holding the shotgun (Laura Norton).
After being accused of killing Al, Cain has now been placed in custody, leaving his wife Moira (Natalie J. Robb) to deal with the aftermath at home and explain his absence to their kids.
Chas (Lucy Pargeter) has disowned her brother in rage over his apparent killing of her lover Al, but Cain is keeping quiet about his discovery of Al’s affair with Chas (Lucy Pargeter) in order to protect the family.
Was Al Cain’s death? If so, how will Cain escape from this situation? Will Jeff Hordley’s involvement with the ITV soap opera end?

Is Cain Dingle leaving Emmerdale? Latest on Jeff Hordley future
Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle, has not yet announced his departure from Emmerdale.
As things stand, Cain appears destined for a lengthy prison sentence because detectives are sure of his guilt. It seems unlikely that Cain will be able to escape justice anytime soon, given that Cain brought the weapon with him and lured the other man to the barn where Al was killed by a shotgun.
A trial appears to be coming up, but could this indicate that Hordley, an actor, will no longer be playing the part he has played since 2000?
The impending departure of Emmerdale has not been announced, and when contacted by RadioTimes.com, ITV representatives declined to comment.
However, it doesn’t necessarily follow that Cain will remain. Surprise departures from soap operas have been known to be broadcast, and Cain has frequently taken screen breaks over the years. If found guilty, Cain might accept his fate and skip a few episodes of our daily dose of the Dingles.
Or, if he is ultimately found innocent, Cain might decide to leave everything behind and travel to Scotland, where his father Zak (Steve Halliwell) is currently staying, to be with his daughter Debbie (Charley Webb).
Given that the criminals of Emmerdale frequently escape from custody, there is one more possibility that we can’t completely rule out. So, could Cain elude capture and leave the country? Fans of the well-known character would undoubtedly find this to be an intriguing mystery.
Of course, there is no guarantee as to what will happen to Cain, so he might end up staying on our screens despite what happens to him. As he adjusts to life in prison, perhaps we’ll see enough of the hardman.
There is a chance he will be found innocent and returned to his family, but we can’t imagine Emmerdale producing prison scenes indefinitely. This week’s events center on sister Chas, so there will be plenty of drama between the two over the explosive information.
The other important query is whether Cain actually killed Al.
Could the bad boy be defending a different family member? Fans have already begun to speculate that Danny Miller’s character Aaron Dingle may have killed Al before leaving the village.
To learn what awaits Cain, you’ll just have to keep watching Emmerdale.
