Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle, the village tough guy on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, has voiced his worries about the future of his character.
The ITV soap opera Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary storyline revolved around Jeff Hordley’s character Cain Dingle, who has played the role for more than 20 years. Sally Dexter’s character, Cain Dingle, recently passed away from cancer, and he is about to learn about his sister Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter’s) liaison with his adversary Al Chapman (Michael Wildman). Jeff acknowledged he worries “every year” about his contract on the soap before Cain and Al’s upcoming showdown.
The 52-year-old actor was invited to appear on Loose Women on Monday, where he spoke with the panel about Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary episodes.
Earlier this month, when he grew close to his mother during her final weeks of life with terminal cancer, Cain’s more vulnerable side was revealed to ITV viewers.
After she was discovered dead, he sobbed by her bedside as the entire village sobbed during their joint funeral for Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele).
Cain will hold a gun to Al after learning Al’s secret in Monday night’s episode of the serial drama, turning his sadness into rage.
When discussing the upcoming storyline for his character, Janet Street-Porter of Loose Women questioned Jeff: “So when you go to work, are you worried about what is next?”
Jeff replied openly: “Since our contracts are only for one year at a time, I worry every year.
Everyone is anxious during certain times of the year when people’s contracts are up in the air.
Regarding his 22-year involvement in the Yorkshire-based soap, Jeff responded to Frankie Bridge as follows: “I took a brief hiatus of three years.
I believe I have worked on the soap opera for 19 years, but the character has existed for 22 years.
I think I’ve been fortunate because I’ve been on the show for such a long time, and the writers have written really well for the character, he continued.
The violent plotlines on the ITV soap continue to center on Jeff’s character Cain.
In a remote barn, where the two men are expected to engage in the ultimate showdown, Al is scheduled to meet a shotgun-wielding Cain.
Al and Cain have been rivals for a while, and the dishonest businessman has been seeing Chas for months.
In upcoming scenes, Cain discovers his sister’s adultery for the first time and uses Chas’ burner phone to con Al into meeting him alone.
Gunshots can be heard throughout the village, according to Emmerdale spoilers, but is it Cain, Al, or another local who perishes?
The shooting will have a “ripple effect” throughout the village, Jeff assured the Loose Women panel, but he avoided giving any further details.
There are some really good stories from here, he joked.
“I believe that after telling a story like this, there must be a ripple effect, and this has an impact on a number of characters in the village. I’m not sure if it’s me, though.
