On Christmas Day, the Dingle family in Emmerdale welcomes a new member, but how is Caleb Milligan related to the bad guy Cain?
With Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) being charged with murder and the passing of matriarch Faith Dingle, Emmerdale has recently seen plenty of heartache for the Dingles (Sally Dexter). A new face will appear in the village as part of the Christmas Day special, changing everything for the villagers in the ITV soap once more. The relationship between Caleb and Cain Milligan’s families is explained in full here (Will Ash).
How is Caleb related to Cain? Who is his mum?
On Christmas Day, Caleb will make his way to the Dales and reveal that he is Cain and Chas Dingle’s long-lost brother (Lucy Pargeter).
Although Caleb’s new sister will be completely taken aback by this, Cain was aware that he had a second sibling.
Fans have been curious as to how precisely the three are connected ever since the news of newcomer Caleb broke.
On This Morning, Sharon Marshall, a writer for Emmerdale, went into great detail about their family history.
She said: “Caleb Milligan is the long-lost brother of Cain and Chas.
“So Faith had another child, people were asking who the mother was.
“Cain knew about him but kept it a secret. He’s got lots of questions he wants answering.
“There’s huge consequences of the big actions over Christmas. Caleb is going to be massive.”
There was a theory that Caleb was the child of Chas’s late father Shadrach (Andy Devine), but Marshall has stated categorically that he is the child of Faith, who passed away from cancer in October.
But why did she conceal the existence of her third child, and where has he been hiding out all these years?
Whatever the answers, it’s said that in 2023, after Caleb makes his debut, there will be some significant scenes.
Fans will be familiar with the actor who plays Caleb from a variety of shows.
The dramas Clocking Off, The Tunnel, Where the Heart Is, Soldier Solider, and The Rising, to name a few, all starred actor Will Ash.
Ash’s most notable early-career performance was as Darren Walsh in Children’s Ward.
Fans will likely recognize him, however, for his role as Christopher Mead in the BBC drama Waterloo Road.
Before leaving the school play in 2011, he participated in it for three years.
Talking about playing Caleb in Emmerdale, Ash said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show.
“Emmerdale is packed full of fantastic actors and I’m really looking forward to working alongside them.
“Caleb is a fantastically complex character and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
