Shirley Carter, played by Linda Henry, walked out of Walford after a hellish week for her family.
Thursday’s EastEnders featured Shirley Carter leaving Walford.
Shirley has been in mourning since the tragic death of her son Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) on Christmas Day.
Scarlett Butcher (Tabitha Byron), Mick’s new stepdaughter, was the target of Shirley’s rage earlier in the week over the conduct of Scarlett’s mother Janine Carter (Charlie Brooks), who was detained on Christmas Day.
On Thursday’s episode (December 29, 2022) though, Shirley apologized to Scarlett and made amends.
Shirley compared Janine to her own evil son Dean Wicks, noting that while neither person is truly evil, they are both capable of doing evil things.
After receiving a hug from Scarlett, Shirley went to see her dear friend Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) and bade her farewell in tears, confessing that she no longer considered the Square to be her home.
Shirley explained that she needed to leave Walford and would be staying with her daughter Carly Wicks.
Shirley thanked Denise Fox (Diane Parish), who had once been Carly’s stepmother, for calling Carly on her behalf after cleaning up and locking up the Vic, and reaffirmed her desire to leave the ghosts of Mick and Tina behind.
So Shirley left Walford carrying Lady Di, her bulldog, and left Denise in charge of the Vic.
