The scene in Emmerdale’s 50-year history where Sam Dingle is impaled by a tractor spike is arguably the most horrifying. Following the bloody ordeal, the character has been receiving round-the-clock care in a hospital, but will his injuries cause him to pass away?
After Belle Dingle discovered Sam Dingle’s lifeless body hanging from a tractor spike, Sam Dingle (played by James Hooton) was taken to the hospital right away (Eden Taylor-Draper). During Emmerdale’s dramatic storm week, a farmhand attempted to avoid being trampled by a stampede of cows but instead was impaled by machinery when he leaped out of the way. Sam’s actor, James, has suggested that the character might not live for very long despite being taken to the hospital.
Sam was the first victim of a stampede on the soap opera, which started when his cows were startled by a windstorm that passed through the community.
ITV viewers gasped in horror as they witnessed Sam’s body being punctured by a spike after he jumped out of the way of the moving animals.
Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) and Belle watched in horror as the camera panned to Sam’s lifeless body, which had a metal stake through it.
Will Sam survive after being rushed to the hospital? Sam has been recovering ever since.
James said to thesuns.info and other media about being impaled as part of his tragic storyline: “It was really interesting as costume went all out to try and find the best way of dealing with this spike scenario.
“When I see it on screen, it appears incredibly realistic, but it’s really just foam.
“You have a piece protruding where the normal tractor piece would be, and costume created a sling that I wore over my shoulder while inserting a portion of the spike into it.
The actor thought the final scene looked fantastic and that being a part of the plot was “really interesting.”
Although he claimed it was “unheard of in soap territory,” he did acknowledge spending nearly an entire working day on the impalement scene.
Fortunately, the crew was “good between takes” because they supported James’ knee while he had to stay in place.
He recalled that he had spent the better part of two to three hours slumped over the spike.
Viewers of Emmerdale were relieved to learn Sam was still alive in the ensuing episode because they had thought the spike had instantly killed him.
As Sam continues to require medical care for his wounds, his family members have been coming to see him every day.
But James has made it seem like his character’s story won’t end happily.
He stated: “What the show will throw at you is always a surprise.
“I was informed that this would occur, but the story’s conclusion is still unknown.
“Neither you nor the viewers know whether Sam survives or perishes.”
Will Sam’s health deteriorate in the scenes to come?
