After 11 years on the soap opera Emmerdale, Priya Sharma will make a dramatic exit in upcoming scenes.
After suffering second-degree burns and having her love interest leave Emmerdale, Priya (played by Fiona Wade) has had a difficult year in the village. Actress Fiona acknowledged it was “one of the hardest decisions” she had ever had to make when it was announced last year that she would be leaving the ITV soap.
The trauma Priya experienced when murderer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) set the Maize Maze on fire will be discussed in Priya’s final scenes, which will air the following week.
After 11 years at Emmerdale, Fiona said of her decision to leave the soap opera: “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.
“Leaving my Emmerdale family is a big thing, and filming my final scenes wasn’t easy.
“It’s difficult and depressing when you’ve lived somewhere for that long and that’s your everyday life.
But as every actor is aware, you must challenge yourself, and that’s crucial as well.
Fiona continued, “It takes her by complete surprise because she’s been fully in control of this event and she’s been organized, felt in charge, and everything’s gone so well. Her character leaves the Take a Vow event when a veil catches on fire.
She is in a good mood when that incident occurs, and it is a huge shock that completely changes her state.
The incident brings back memories of Priya’s severe burns sustained in the maze fire.
It’s really triggering, said Fiona. “She views it as a significant setback.
“Her body and mind’s response to it immediately brings her back to the fire.
“She freezes and experiences a breakdown, which surprises her because she believes she has worked so hard on improving herself in the wake of what happened.
“She hasn’t felt like her old self in a few months and considers it to be a significant setback.
It isn’t, but it does help her realize that what she’s been through is still present and hasn’t simply vanished.
The eating disorder and the accident in the fire were two of the many wonderful storylines I’ve had, Fiona said when asked about her favorite.
It’s difficult to choose just one because they have all been so emotionally draining, but they have all been incredibly rewarding to play.
“I can’t choose a favorite, but the research on the eating disorder was so fascinating because it was complicated and ongoing.
It was a wonderful addition to my character. She has a lot of layers underneath her glamorous and assured exterior.
It revealed her complexities, vulnerability, and insecurities. I believe this is the reason I have always adored Priya.
Co-stars Chris Bisson and Rebecca Sarker organized a drinks party as she was getting ready to leave the show, and there she received some “gorgeous gifts.”
