Sally Dexter’s last scenes as Faith Dingle in Emmerdale were broadcast as part of the soap opera’s 50th anniversary, but the actress has acknowledged she feels “guilty” about leaving.
Cain Dingle from Emmerdale, played by Jeff Hordley, had to say goodbye to his mother Faith Dingle, played by Sally Dexter, in heartbreaking scenes after she made the decision to end her life after learning she had a terminal illness. Sally discussed her final scenes with Express.co.uk and revealed how she relaxes after such intense acting.
Sally stated at the Inside Soap Awards that she considered it a “privilege” to be able to work on such a difficult plot line.
“Well, in a way, you have to be very grateful that you can just leap out of the bed and go, ‘Hey, I’m alive,'” she said, describing how she felt after filming her character’s demise.
There are people who are actually going through this, so in some ways I feel both euphoric and slightly guilty.
“This is real, it matters, people are watching it, going through it, and there are people watching it who are sitting next to someone who is going through it.
“Doing it with such wonderful people around me in such a wonderful team, including a fabulous director, felt like the most enormous privilege,” the author said.
The Emmerdale veteran continued, “It just felt like an honor.”
Cain stayed by his mother’s side in the poignant hour-long episode after realizing it was too late to convince her otherwise.
Fans of Emmerdale were moved to tears by the poignant scenes.
“Miss you already, faith, won’t be the same without you,” wrote @jlebon123.
Fantastic performance by Sally Dexter as Faith, according to @meltanie’s tweet. There were no dry eyes in the house, #Emmerdale.
“I’m crying uncontrollably once more! Such a heartbreaking story but so brilliantly portrayed #emmerdale, Faith was a brilliant character, and Sally deserves all the awards, according to @hayleyemedwards.
“I’m going to miss Faith @emmerdale,” tweeted @1madwoman1962. Sally is a fantastic actress; her absence will be greatly felt.
“Just caught up on #emmerdale, and I have to say they really put on a show for Faith’s final scenes,” @jennaxchristian continued. I’ve messed up.
When Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) stayed the night with Al Chapman, she was unaware that her mother was dying (Michael Wildman).
She was unaware of where she had actually been as Cain and Chas’ husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) reassured her that she didn’t need to feel guilty.
Next week, as the residents begin to understand the full impact of the storm, Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary month will continue.
Despite Kim Tate’s (Claire King) best efforts to save her, Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) ended up being the storm’s first casualty.
Later that week, tragedy struck once more when Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) and Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) were run over by a caravan.
Emmerdale viewers watched as Liv passed away in her husband’s arms after paramedics admitted they were helpless to save her. Vinny was eventually able to free himself.
