In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (February 21), Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) was in turmoil as the mood swings brought on by her period resulted in yet another outburst.
When dad Bob (Tony Audenshaw) told the teenager earlier this week that he preferred she stay with adoptive mother Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) rather than at the B&B, where he was preparing for its big launch, the teenager was hurt.
While Brenda attempted to comfort Cathy as the ITV soap opera returned tonight, twin brother Heath (Sebastian Dowling) unintentionally fueled the fire by revealing that their father had paid him to assist with the launch.
Cathy barged in to confront Bob just as Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) delivered a cake he had made for Bob and business partner Bernice Blackstock’s (Samantha Giles) event, revealing it was the first one he had made on his own since his stroke last year. But she unintentionally knocked over the cake as she hurried off after her harsh words.
Bob was dejected as he insisted that Cathy apologize to Marlon, but she ignored him and left because she was too embarrassed and upset. Bernice achieved success outside when she sat down with Cathy and listened to her patiently as she explained that she was unaware of what was taking place to her.
She admitted that although her periods had become lighter since starting the contraceptive pill to help with them, Cathy was still having trouble controlling her rage. Cathy received an amethyst pendant from Bernice, who suggested that it might reduce her stress. Cathy was appreciative, and the two engaged in conversation as Bernice talked about Tim the Harpist, who Cathy had grown fond of.
When Cathy went back to see Bob, his frazzled demeanor caused him to irritate his daughter once more by admitting he really did want her out of the B&B and saying she couldn’t always blame her periods (easy for Bob, a man, to say!).
In the process of discussing Cathy’s feisty behavior, Bob ended up ranting at her, which caused Cathy to start crying and demand that he leave her alone. Will Cathy be able to get assistance?
