Bradley Johnson of Emmerdale said that during the upcoming funeral scenes, as the community gets ready to say goodbye to Liv and Faith, the emotion was very palpable.
Bradley Johnson, who plays Vinny Dingle on the venerable ITV soap opera Emmerdale, said the “emotion was real” while filming upcoming scenes as the village gets ready to bid Liv and Faith farewell in a tragic double funeral.
As he struggles to cope with his wife’s tragic death after she was crushed by a caravan during the deadly windstorm that swept the Yorkshire village during the 50th anniversary, Liv’s husband Vinny has recently been depicted by viewers as being in turmoil.
As the departure of his co-star Isobel Steele signifies the “end of an era” for one of Emmerdale’s most beloved couples, actor Bradley has struggled to cope behind the scenes.
Bradley admitted that while he was genuinely upset, it was “easy to act” as though Issy had just gone on vacation. However, as the emotional scenes for the funeral were being filmed, it suddenly dawned on him that she wouldn’t be returning.
“Since Isobel left about three weeks ago, it just felt like she was on a really long vacation,” Bradley said. “However, when we went to the funeral day and we saw the hearses with Liv’s name on it and the photos, especially in the coffin, it became real to me that I’m not going to be working with her again.”
“I believe there have been some lovely, lovely scenes in the brief time Liv and Vinny have been dating. Together, we’ve overcome so much, and in my opinion, the time was cut far too short.
In the funeral episode, which will air on Friday (October 28) at 7:30 p.m., Faith and Liv’s coffins will be transported by two horse-drawn carriages, and the entire village will gather to pay their respects.
In one of the biggest productions of the show since before COVID, the entire adult cast lined the main street. Bradley elucidated. We were acting down at the bottom of the village because it was so emotional, so we missed seeing everyone on Main Street.
The director, however, appeared and instructed Bradley, “Bradley, I want you to walk around the corner and as you look up you’ll see the entire cast and they’re going to throw roses as the coffin goes by.
It’s a rare sight to see every adult cast member present, so it’s obvious that I was looking down when I first saw everyone. The camera had been tilted around.
It was a very emotional day, of course, having the coffins there and the hearses with the names on them, but it should have looked amazing and very sincere.
Laura Shaw, the producer of Emmerdale, continued, “We knew when we decided to do a joint funeral for Faith and Liv that it would need to be a very special and memorable funeral for two so enormously epic and beloved characters.
The funeral was near the end of our October 50th birthday month, so having the entire adult cast present to say goodbye felt very right and appropriate. Having a scene with the entire adult cast was something we had never done before.
It was a difficult task for the Emmerdale production team to plan and carry out, and it was equally difficult to film as the Dingles said goodbye to not just one, but two members of their cherished family. Some of the tears that fell that day were very real. However, there was also a festive atmosphere on set hidden behind the sobs and sadness.
“A sense of pride and honor that the month of October was coming to a close with all of our villagers standing together on Main Street, exhibiting that love and warmth and togetherness that has kept Emmerdale on our televisions for 50 years.”
