Amelia Flanagan, a star of EMMERDALE, has spoken out about competing against her sister Isabelle Flanagan, a cast member of Coronation Street, for an Inside Soap Award.
In the past year, April Windsor’s involvement in some difficult storylines in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale has been played by Amelia Flanagan. The young actress is competing against her younger sister Isabella, who portrays Stape Hope in Coronation Street, in the Inside Soap Award nominations. In a recent interview, she discussed their nominations and said there is no animosity between them.
For their breathtaking performances over the past year, the sisters have each received a nomination in the Best Young Performers category.
Along with the sisters, their younger brother William can occasionally be seen in Coronation Street playing Joseph Brown, the son of Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).
Amelia said, when asked if she had any influence on Isabella and William’s interest in television: “Yeah!
“Before Bella and Will were involved with it, I had been doing it for a few years. That all three of us have ended up in soap operas is bizarre!
For the first time, I’m competing with Bella for an award, and as much as I’d love to succeed, I actually hope my sister takes home the prize.
“I’ll be team Emmerdale at an awards ceremony, and they’ll be team Corrie, but it’s never competitive,” she continued.
It’s enjoyable when Bella and I do lines in which she portrays Hope and I pretend to be a member of Coronation Street.
The Flanagan group will need to receive more votes than other nominees Jude Riordan (who plays Sam Blakeman), Sonny Kendall (who portrays Tommy Moon), Lillia Turner (who portrays Lily Slater), Gabrielle Dowling (who portrays Cathy Hope), Charlie Behan (who portrays Charlie Dean), and Jayden Fox (who portrays Bobby Costello).
The All-Time Incon category, which will allow voters to select the best soap character to have ever existed, has been added this year by Inside Soap to their list.
Those who have previously been announced as contenders are Hilda Ogden or Bet Lynch, a Coronation Street legend played by Julie Goodyear (Jean Alexander).
Peggy Mitchell from EastEnders (Barbara Windsor) or Dennis “Dirty Den” Watts (Leslie Grantham).
Hollyoaks icon Luke Morgan (Gary Lucy), Kim Tate (Claire King), Ashely Thomas (John Middleton) from Emmerdale, or Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle).
The choice of who to nominate is up to the voters, and the winner will be notified simultaneously with the other categories.
The nominees for some of this year’s most moving issue-based storylines have also been announced, including Marlon Dingle’s stroke in Emmerdale and Misbah’s revelation of historical sexual assault in Hollyoaks.
All of the nominees for Best Actress include Georgia Taylor from Coronation Street, who plays Toyah Battersby, Gillan Wright from EastEnders, who portrays Jean Slater, Paige Sandhu from Emmerdale, who plays Meena Jutla, and Jennifer Metcalfe from Hollyoaks, who plays Mercedes McQueen.
The Best Actor category includes Ben Mitchell from EastEnders’ Max Bowden, Kevin Webster from Coronation Street’s Michael Le Vell, Cain Dingle from Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley, and Felix Westwood from Hollyoaks’ Richard Blackwood.
Each soap opera has seen the coming and fall of numerous villains over the past year, including Toby-Alexander Smith as Grey Atkins on EastEnders, Maximus Evans as Corey Brent on Coronation Street, and Michael Wildman as Al Chapman, who is nominated for an Emmy.
The Alahans, The Platts, The Panesars, The Slaters, The Dingles, The Sharma’s, The Chen-Williams’, and The McQueens are competing for the crown, putting the soap families to the test as well.
Neighbours, Doctors, and Home and Away are all up for nomination in the category of Best Daytime Soap.
With the iconic Best Soap, in which the four illustrious soap operas compete for the honor of Best Soap.
