Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi has revealed she was asked by TV bosses to film in her underwear but flat out refused the request.
Emmerdale’s Leyla Harding star Roxy Shahidi has recalled being asked by TV bosses to film a scene which would see her drop her bra and knickers as she seduced doctor Liam Cavanagh (played by Johnny McPherson) on the long-running ITV soap. The actress flat out refused, insisting she would not be comfortable filming the scene.
Speaking on Steph’s Packed Lunch, actress Roxy detailed: “Everyone’s got their own body issues, haven’t they? So, they’re [producers] fantastic like that.
“And equally, if there’s stuff in the script that you’re not comfortable with, whether that’s emotional, or whether that’s on a physical level, whatever it is, you can always raise that.”
She went on to recall: “For example, I was written in in an underwear scene where I shimmied into a doctor’s surgery and dropped my coat in bra and knickers.
“I said, ‘No, I’m not doing that.’
“And so, I ended up in a nice knee length dress from Reiss, but I did a really good shimmy, a little dance, and I think it was funnier.
“For me personally, I felt comfortable delivering that scene, and also people don’t want to see my bra and knickers when they’re having their tea.”
In Thursday’s double bill of Emmerdale, Leyla was finally freed after being held captive by drug dealer Callum.
Fans were concerned she would be killed off but Roxy told host Steph McGovern her ideal exit would “100 percent be in a taxi”.
She clarified: “If you take a taxi, you can always take a taxi to get back. You take a taxi to get there and one to get home.” Since it leaves that door fluid, you really want the taxi.
“You don’t want to die; dying would be too depressing. You’ve invested so much in that character because you’ve known them for so long. I would cry if I tried to do it.
Roxy’s character, fortunately for Leyla and Roxy, made it through the horrifying kidnapping ordeal.
While attempting to save Leyla, Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) were taken hostage by Callum as well.
Suzy, Jacob, and Leyla were threatened with being permanently removed by him as he pulled a gun and waved it in their faces.
Leyla begged Callum to shoot her instead of Jacob as he pointed the gun at Jacob.
Fortunately, the police got in touch with Callum at that precise moment and ordered him to put down his weapon.
As armed police pointed guns at him as he emerged from the cabin, he realized there was no way out.
Police detained the drug dealer as he put down his weapon, and Suzy, Jacob, and Leyla were able to leave the cabin they had been detained in.
Callum was detained for kidnapping, holding someone against their will, and having a gun.
The ordeal was finally over, Jacob told his mother as he gave her a hug. They can hopefully now resume their lives.
