Liam Fox, an Emmerdale actor, talked about his father’s passing as part of the One Million Minutes campaign launched by Good Morning Britain.
Actor Liam Fox of Emmerdale has bravely shared how his father struggled with loneliness before passing away. The celebrity spoke about his tragic loss as a guest on Good Morning Britain on Thursday in an effort to spread awareness about loneliness. As part of the program’s One Million Minutes initiative, famous people share their own stories of loneliness in the hopes of inspiring others to be supportive of one another’s vulnerability.
Speaking openly to hosts Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh, the actor who has played Dan Spencer on the ITV soap opera for more than ten years did so.
It’s a growing problem, isn’t it, he said to them. My dad was one of the many people living alone today, and he struggled.
“Quite honestly, his loneliness killed him. By the end of it, he had developed depression and turned to alcohol.”
You’d visit him and invite him to move in with us, but Liam continued, “I mean he didn’t want to come with us because he wanted to drink as well.”
Liam made the following observation to draw attention to the problem: “So that vicious circle of loneliness and drink just went on and on.
It’s one of those things, but it exists and affects people of all ages—not just the elderly.
Throughout the emotional portion of the morning TV show, Ranvir expressed sympathy for the ITV star.
Liam’s father passed away in February 2021 at the age of 73 from pneumonia, and the Dan Spencer actor spoke candidly about his death at the time.
As he stated to Mirror Online “My father battled alcoholism for almost 40 years of my life, and it was absolutely horrifying for us to see him get so frequently wasted while knowing he would eventually pass away from the demon drink.
“He couldn’t help himself, despite our repeated warnings that if he didn’t stop drinking, he would die.
“If my sharing what happened with others can benefit them, then that has to be a good thing.”
Added Liam “No one should be forced to endure silent suffering.
The touching scene on Thursday’s show was a part of the program’s seventh year of supporting the One Million Minutes initiative.
The show’s hosts, including Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway, are requesting viewers’ time rather than financial contributions.
People have been asked to commit 60 minutes of their time to helping someone who might be feeling lonely during this joyous season.
Ben Miller, the star of Death in Paradise, has been one of the well-known figures to discuss his own struggles with loneliness.
On the program, the actor said: “I wanted to write about how I dealt with my loss.
“When my father passed away, I was extremely busy and threw myself into my work. It wasn’t until nearly 18 to 2 years later that it really hit me like a train.
And I recall feeling so alone and depressed, as if a glass wall separated me from everyone else.”
I wanted to write a story where the main character was going through that, the author declared.
