Paddy Kirk’s (Dominic Brunt) life is on the line in Emmerdale next week, following his disappearance.
The vet, who has been struggling with his mental health after Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman), vanished earlier this week, shortly after sleeping with his ex of over 25 years, Mandy (Lisa Riley).
His sudden disappearance led to his loved ones calling the police as they became extremely worried about his whereabouts and, next week, the Dingles create a huge search party in the hopes of finding him quickly.
PC Swirling arrives to deliver some good news that there has been a reported sighting. But this is false hope. The Dingles are shown CCTV of their beloved Paddy, confirming the sighting, but also confirming that the police can scale back their search efforts.
This is devastating news for the family as it’s clear to them that Paddy is far from fine.
Bear (Joshua Richards) is furious and heads out to search on his own. But the family lose hope about Paddy’s return as they realise he doesn’t want to be found.
This is terrifying for those who truly know him and can see that he is not in the right frame of mind to take care of himself.
Will their search end in tragedy?
It has been confirmed that in scenes set to air next month, Paddy will begin to say veiled goodbyes to family and friends, before leaving the village with the aim of ending his life.
‘It is a huge honour and a great responsibility to be portraying this storyline,’ actor Dominic Brunt said. ‘It’s an inherent problem in today’s society that most men don’t talk enough about their problems.
‘We bottle them up, we don’t want to bother anyone, we become embarrassed, we feel we should be strong and not show weakness.
‘If this story can shine a light on the issue or make even a small change to someone’s outlook or viewpoint, then it will have been worth it’.
