Recently, Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) in Emmerdale has experienced a lot, including drug rehab to treat her cocaine addiction and the dissolution of her marriage.
This was quickly followed by a near-relapse into drug use, which directly led to Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) confronting her dealer outside and getting stabbed.
Leyla is eager to start working hard when one of Take A Vow’s clients offers her a position with his London team in upcoming episodes. She wants to talk to Jacob before accepting the job, but when she does, he acts as if he doesn’t care and shuts the door in her face.
Leyla accepts the job offer and looks forward to a new beginning because she believes there is nothing left for her in the Dales after all of this. She is therefore shocked and disappointed to learn that Leyla’s job offer has been withdrawn and that Priya (Fiona Wade) has been offered the same position and plans to accept it.
Leyla will also experience other surprises, though.
She decides to lend a hand when she finds out that David (Matthew Wolfenden) and Amba (Ava Jayasinghe), their daughter, have disappeared, leaving Priya unable to remove Amba from the village. She follows David to a cottage and tries to persuade him that he should confront his issues rather than avoid them.
Beyond all sense, a desperate David reacts by locking Leyla in the cottage’s bathroom before she can call the police.
