In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Wednesday, January 18), poor Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) was horrified when her kids overheard Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) refer to her as a prostitute.
The incident took place during a heated argument between Dawn and Gabby about how to balance motherhood with their future careers.
Gabby became irate and demanded to know who fed Lucas while she was “shooting up drugs and working as a prostitute” after Dawn refused to feed Thomas while she caught up on her work because she was studying herself.
Young Lucas (Noah Ryan Aspinall), who was at a curious age, remained fixated on learning what the word “prostitute” meant until he did.
Dawn admitted to Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), her father, that she intended to tell the truth to the children when they were older so that they wouldn’t judge her for what she had to do.
She chose to tell them now, before they looked it up on their own, though, after some encouragement from Will.
In a heartbreaking scene, Dawn admitted to her kids that she had struggled mightily in life and had made some poor decisions. She gently explained that when she was extremely poor, she had to go out with men to make money.
She made it a point to emphasize to the children the significance of only forming close relationships with people who value you.
She finished her explanation by telling them that they mean the world to her, and that she wants to be a mum they can be proud of.
Sweet Clemmie (Mabel Addison) and Lucas were quick to point out how proud they already were, as they shared a big hug.
With Dawn having been forced to have such a difficult conversation with her children, will she let Gabby get away with the things she said?
