Following Cathy Hope’s recent outbursts, Emmerdale viewers think they have figured out what she is trying to conceal.
Cathy Hope, a young character on Emmerdale played by Gabrielle Dowling, has recently been struggling, but the adolescent is keeping whatever is bothering her a secret. Cathy (Antony Audenshaw) has been arguing with her dad, Bob, and has also had several outbursts recently. After Bob coerced his daughter to take the stage and perform a song, the adolescent stormed out of the cafe in tears.
Prior to Viv Windsor’s passing, Bob discussed Cathy and her twin Heath (Sebastian Dowling) with her.
Since then, the two have argued, and at one point, Cathy refused to refer to Bob as her father.
Some fans believe the fact that she called him by his first name rather than his last name may be a telling hint.
While many speculate that the adolescent may be experiencing mental health issues, others have come up with the ludicrous theory that Bob is not actually the teen’s father.
Taking to Twitter, Jamie predicted: “Oh. Cathy just called her Dad “Bob” and he said, “Don’t call me Bob.” Is this a clue that maybe her storyline IS a switched at birth? #Emmerdale.” (sic)
However, Amy was quick to point out: “Switched at birth has been done before though.”
Michelle Jones penned: “Bob has no control of Cathy whatsoever.”
While Mike added: “Has Cathy got anxiety is that what her storyline will be that’s been rumoured? #Emmerdale.”
“I wonder if Cathy has schizophrenia?” Ryan Glendenning asked.
Yvonne agreed: “Schizophrenia maybe Cathy is starting to suffer from.”
Holly claimed: “Does Cathy have Seasonal Affective Disorder? #emmerdale.”
Executive producer of Emmerdale Jane Hudson talked openly about Cathy’s plot in a recent interview with Express.co.uk and other media.
When the young cast reaches a certain age, Jane said, “you suddenly realize they’re growing up.”
You think, “Oh my god, we need to start growing them up in the show,” when they suddenly appear after being off-screen for a few weeks and are a foot taller and have deeper voices.
“Cathy, after about three years of keeping her at 15, she finally said, “You do know my character is 18 now.
And I responded, “Oh my goodness, yea, we need to bring you up. So, you’ll see that Cathy, Bob’s daughter, has a really significant plot.
It’s her first major story, and it’s a difficult one. It’s really emotional.
She continued, “I think a lot of the parents will relate to it.
And a big one is coming up for Cathy because it’s something I’ve never seen a soap opera do before.
