Fans of Emmerdale have been riveted by a story that has been unfolding over the past few months and involved the vicious assault of Nicola King, a villager.
Back in June, a group of vicious girls brutally beat Nicola (played by Nichola Wheeler) and left her for dead. As the Emmerdale plot develops with the court case, she is currently forced to relive her ordeal. Because she was at the scene of the assault, Naomi Walters (Karene Peter), a relative newcomer to the ITV soap opera, has had a difficult time fitting in with the community. However, as the court proceedings progressed, viewers called attention to a mistake involving missing CCTV and expressed worry for Naomi’s well-being as she was held responsible by the real attackers.
Long-lost Naomi Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) discovered her father earlier this year, but since arriving on the Dales, she has made a few enemies.
She was the young woman in trainers who momentarily appeared toward the end of Nicola’s attack, but she wasn’t a part of the assault itself, it turned out.
Her former friends are currently attempting to implicate her in the crime in court.
Fans noted that there would have been some CCTV showing the girls’ movements on the day, but there doesn’t appear to have been any as each of them gave their testimony.
Each member of the gang was attempting to explain their whereabouts while under oath as they traveled from a cinema to a bar to the parking lot where the attack occurred.
Later, one of the other defendants threatened Naomi in the courtroom restrooms.
Saskia, the ringleader, threatened to hurt her family if she didn’t believe the group’s lies.
Once more, viewers argued that a CCTV camera should have caught her following Naomi.
In later scenes, Naomi admitted to the court that she had received threats, but no one in the court thought to look at the cameras as they tried to determine whether Naomi was telling the truth.
While Naomi was being questioned by the attorney, the lawyer said, “You lied to Mrs. King and you lied to your own family.”
Naomi said, trying her best to contain her tears, “No, I told my family.
The prosecution questioned, “What on earth would give us reason to believe you now?”
“Five defendants have sworn under oath that you have some very shady friends and that you despise Saskia Parks,” the prosecutor said.
Naomi insisted, “They’re lying,” and the attorney inquired, “Are they all lying?”
Naomi attempted to convince the court that she had been used as a scapegoat and claimed Saskia had threatened her.
Naomi explains, “She cornered me and threatened my family if I didn’t lie for her.
“Naomi, you’re lying!” Saskia shouted and stood up to approach Naomi but was stopped.
She yelled at Naomi, “You’ll regret this, you spoilt b****,” as the judge informed Naomi that she had made a “serious” accusation.
However, Twitter user @zakbrownz pointed out an apparent error in the case, writing: “CCTV would show that she followed Naomi into the toilets #emmerdale.”
Am surprised this court even has a f***ing judge, they didn’t show the video evidence either, unless it got suppressed in some way, said @DavidHe47935675.
Posted by @ItsNotBetty_: “The nonexistent CCTV keeps coming up. It’s b* annoying when authors simply leave out this commonplace reality.”
Posted by @soniast94597425: “#emmerdale. The Pickled Lantern and the multi-story parking lot don’t have CCTV, right?”
@Chris1968E questioned, “#Emmerdale so there’s not one bit of CCTV footage of the thugs anywhere at all?”
Fans also expressed concern for Naomi, who was facing a difficult trial of several accounts against her without any conclusive evidence.
Sparky Sue left a comment: “#Emmerdale I hope Naomi is released.”
Added by @RyanGSoapKing11 “Although Naomi should have assisted Nicola, she chose not to harm the woman. I sincerely hope she stays alive. #Emmerdale.”
Tweeted @JamieTVandNews: “Even though Naomi isn’t the most endearing person, chavvy bints like Saskia are as bad as they come. Eliminate her, Naomi #Emmerdale.” (sic)
