Paddy Kirk has been at the centre of the drama this week
One of the most recognizable figures in Emmerdale is Dominic Brunt.
The fictional Yorkshire village’s Paddy Kirk is a well-known character played by the 52-year-old soap opera star. In the ITV series, Paddy has recently become depressed after learning that his wife, Chas Dingle, had an affair with Al Chapman.
In this week’s episode, as the character was getting ready to commit suicide, he reached his lowest point and wrote a suicide note. The hero was saved by his friend Marlon Dingle, who persuaded him to lay down the bolt gun.
The storyline will continue to develop over the following two weeks, Dominic revealed when he made an appearance on This Morning this week. A special episode with an all-male cast will air during this time since Marlon will close the Woolpack Pub on March 10 with the goal of getting men to talk to one another.
Mark Charnock portrays Marlon Dingle, and the two characters’ on-screen friendship goes beyond the Yorkshire Dales. They both enjoy horror films, and the two also organize a yearly zombie film festival in Leeds.
The business was first introduced by the soap opera star friends in 2008 and is still going strong today. Film enthusiast Dominic even directed his fifth movie, Wolf Manor, last year.
Dominic has acknowledged that, despite the current storyline, his loyalty still lies with Emmerdale and that he has no plans to leave the show to pursue his directing career full-time. In January, he stated to Loose Women, “My loyalties really do lie with Emmerdale.
“I only do them every few years because I never want to do one of them half-heartedly. It takes about two to four years to get the funding together, and sometimes films collapse and other times they get up and go forward.
“Emmerdale makes me happy, and I really love it.” Off-screen, Dominic has a happy family life. He is married to Joanne Mitchell, a name that fans of soap operas will recognize.
She joined the Emmerdale cast in 2016 as Sandra Flaherty, the mother of Liv Dingle. They got married in 2003 and have two kids together.
Joanne has played a variety of characters in the ITV soap opera, including Susan Davies in 2009 and DC Barnborough in 2003.
