In honor of the soap opera’s 50th anniversary, Kim Tate, a beloved character from Emmerdale, is getting married to Will Taylor. The costume designer has explained why he had to create seven identical wedding gowns for her.
The ITV soap opera Emmerdale’s Kim Tate (played by Claire King) and her adoring partner Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) are planning the wedding of the century. On Wednesday’s episode of Lorraine, Ian Fulcher, the show’s costume designer, revealed Kim’s statement wedding attire. For the 50th anniversary special, Ian explained why the character’s wedding attire needed to be made seven times.
Kim’s wedding gown was shown to Lorraine stylist Mark Heyes while he was working behind the scenes in the Emmerdale costume department.
For Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary on Sunday, October 16, Kim’s wedding scenes will air.
Kim will ride a white horse to the church in homage to the soap opera’s debut episode, according to ITV spoilers.
She will be wearing a long, fitted red coat, black pants, and black riding boots.
Kim’s stylish wedding attire will also include a crisp white blouse, a classic black top hat, and an elaborate brooch.
“This dress hasn’t been screened yet, but it is due to come out anytime soon really as part of the 50th-anniversary episodes,” costume designer Ian said, standing by a mannequin wearing the outfit.
“So, we’ve gone equestrian proper glamour here. One fascinating thing I noticed is that you have seven of these. Tell me why,” Mark said.
Yes, we had to make seven, Ian admitted, because the plot heavily relies on stunts and repeats stunts.
“Filming is not always done in chronological order, so we had to make sure we had seven to enable that.”
It’s unbelievable, Ian, said Mark. You must have one left if there are seven of them for Lorraine and I.
“Do you agree that we’d rock that? I think so.” Lorraine was questioned by Mark about the Emmerdale shoot.
The Scottish broadcaster acknowledged how much she would “love” to have a copy of Kim’s wedding attire and characterized it as “very Gentleman Jack.”
Before her opulent wedding, Kim has a showdown with Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) in upcoming Emmerdale scenes.
When Kim challenges the police officer, Harriet snaps and grabs her by the throat.
Prior to Kim’s arrival, her wedding guests at St. Mary’s Church begin to settle in.
As word spreads that the elegant Kim will soon make her grand entrance on horseback, the guests file outside to witness the spectacle.
Everyone notices how blustery the wind is becoming as they leave the church after the wedding ceremony.
Could Kim and Will’s lives be in danger just hours into their marriage? It appears that the anniversary windstorm in the soap opera will start soon after the ceremony.
