As the soap opera has said goodbye to Vanessa Woodfield, yet another Emmerdale love story appears to be over forever.
With her character moving to Canada after her breakup with Suzy, actress Michelle Hardwick’s scenes in tonight’s (Wednesday, November 30) episode were her final ones for the time being (Martelle Edinborough).
The plan was for the couple and Vanessa’s son Johnny (Jack Jennings) to depart together, but things changed after the couple’s acrimonious breakup over their individual trust issues.
Before moving across the pond, Vanessa’s friends had planned a leaving party for her without being aware of the most recent events.
When they arrived at The Woolpack, which was decorated with Canadian flags for the occasion, Vanessa sobbed and said she and Suzy had split up.
She sobbed as Mary (Louise Jameson) and Rhona (Zoe Henry) consoled her, “She’s dumped me.”
Later, Mary decided to take it upon herself to persuade Suzy to attend Vanessa.
“Things cannot be left in this condition. You two are in love because I know you are “Mary informed her. Do you really want to end on such a negative note?
Suzy, however, was adamant that the best course of action would be to skip the party.
In the meantime, Vanessa and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), her ex-girlfriend, had a heart-to-heart.
Charity said, “I really hope it works out for you.”
And I hope you and Mack too,” Vanessa added, making reference to Charity’s fiance.
In addition, Vanessa discussed her breakup with Suzy, saying, “I’m gutted, all I want to do is crawl under a duvet, but I can’t, not today anyway.”
After a heartbreaking farewell party, Vanessa and Johnny’s taxi arrived to pick them up. Vanessa was shocked to see Suzy stop the driver shortly after the mother and son said their goodbyes and got into the car.
Suzy told Vanessa not to be worried about the new job as the two women parted ways.
Don’t ever lose sight of how smart you are, Suzy advised.
As they shared a kiss and admitted to having feelings for one another, they also decided that perhaps taking some time apart would be beneficial.
Hardwick is actually taking a break from the soap opera as she enters maternity leave.
