EastEnders mother-to-be Whitney Dean has been getting mixed signals from her baby’s dad, Zack Hudson, ever since his HIV diagnosis caused him to push everyone away.
Although he still hasn’t told Whitney (played by Shona McGarty) about his diagnosis, Zack (James Farrar) has tried to prove he will be around for the baby after telling her in his vulnerable and shocked state that he wanted nothing to do with his unborn child. In recent EastEnders episodes, the pair seem to have found a way to be there for each other, especially since Whitney found out about there could be some risks associated with her pregnancy. Upcoming scenes of the BBC drama are set to be even more heartbreaking for the two – but will they reunite in grief?
In a recent episode of the soap opera, it was revealed that Whitney’s unborn child would have Edwards’ Syndrome, a serious but uncommon condition that affects three out of every 10,000 births.
Sadly, the majority of infants with Edwards syndrome will pass away either before or soon after birth.
Whitney has only received a warning that there may be risk factors up to this point, but in yet-to-air scenes, she will learn the heartbreaking news.
The tragic tale will be seen by viewers as Zack and Whitney remain together while visiting the hospital.
As the two travel to the hospital to learn the results of their CVS test, Zack makes an effort to maintain optimism.
However, when their infant is formally identified as having Edward’s Syndrome, their entire world falls apart.
Zack, who is devastated by the baby’s prognosis, finds it difficult to face going to the hospital with Whitney.
After hearing some inspiring words from Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Zack returns to stand by Whitney.
Whitney is distraught and pushes her loved ones away, refusing to talk to anyone.
Zack understands the importance of being there for the mother of his unborn child after having a heart-to-heart with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace).
He consoles Whitney back at No. 1 and assures her that the diagnosis of their child is not her fault.
Given that she previously lost a baby, Whitney is certain to be devastated by the news.
It appears that their bond might grow closer as the two put their differences aside to support one another through the terrible news.
Perhaps the two will start spending more time together now that Zack is determined to be there for Whitney.
Another possibility is that Zack will finally tell her about his HIV.
He was previously too heartbroken to discuss it, but he is now gradually accepting the prognosis.
Could they decide to pursue their relationship formally?
The two appear to be joining forces in their grief, and if they are both honest about how they are feeling, they might find solace in each other.
Perhaps the tragedy will lead to the two falling in love as they face a challenging future.
In any case, it appears that Zack will support Whtiney throughout the impending ordeal.
