EastEnders’ Stacey Slater is a strong, independent woman who has always been determined to do whatever it takes to support her family.
As the cost of living crisis started to have an impact, Stacey (played by Lacey Turner) wasn’t having the best of times in Walford. Even though she and Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) worked extremely hard to maintain their small business, it suffered. Stacey struggles to cope and settles for a job working with her mother Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), but she might end up taking on more than she can handle, according to official EastEnders spoilers.
Stacey has been having trouble dealing with the fact that her first daughter Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) is expecting her first child in recent scenes.
Her financial problems also started after her ex-boyfriend Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) stopped paying her child support.
Ryan decided he would find another way to avenge the family because Lily declined to move up North with him.
Just as the cost of living crisis began to take hold, he told Stacey that he wouldn’t be providing any additional funds for Stacey or Lily.
When Lily says she needs a new uniform in upcoming scenes, Stacey worries about money again.
Stacey is more appreciative than ever of her family as a result of Whitney’s circumstances surrounding her most recent abortion, which is weighing heavily on her mind.
Stacey asks Linda for a part-time shift at The Vic because she is searching for additional work and is determined not to let her financial concerns affect her family.
When Linda declines to assist, Jean finds more cleaning work for the two of them.
After working night shifts with Jean, Stacey is worn out and rushes to open the bap-van while inadvertently scolding her hand.
At the clinic, Stacey confides in Sonia about her financial woes and mother guilt, admitting that she is finding it difficult to manage.
Could the stress of working two jobs send Stacey into a tailspin given her past struggles with mental illness and her bipolar diagnosis?
Recently, Lacey Turner talked openly about the plot point involving money and being able to support the family.
Stacey is fortunate to have a large support system, she said, as a result of which she is able to go out at night and perform office cleaning duties.
“She’s got Martin Fowler (James Bye), Eve, Jean, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) and all these people to help with the children.
“So she’s lucky in that sense but I think, like any person, it’s hard to juggle two jobs, three children, school, food etc.
“She’s struggling but somehow manages, but I think that’s down to her good support network.”
EastEnders viewers were recently given an insight into what they can expect from the BBC soap this coming Christmas as the women of Walford are implicated in a murder.
In flashforward scenes, Stacey was seen standing with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Linda, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Cathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) with a mysterious male body on the floor.
Soap boss Chris Clenshaw has recently admitted Stacey will have to do something she’s never done before in a shocking twist.
Speaking about the upcoming storyline in regards to Stacey, he said: “Not only has Stacey been dealing with the rising cost of living, but also struggling to keep her pregnant daughter out of harm’s way.
“This year Stacey finds herself doing something she’s never done before in an effort to protect her family and unborn grandchild.”
