In light of Mick’s (Danny Dyer) tragic disappearance, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) has decided to sell the Vic, which will have a significant impact on her future in EastEnders.
As viewers will recall, Linda and Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) ended up trapped in a car that sank to the bottom of the sea, and Mick disappeared over the holiday season while attempting to save them from a watery grave.
After Linda told him to give her love rival priority, the landlord was able to save Janine and his unborn child, but he ultimately disappeared in the waves after returning to the water to save his beloved L.
In an effort to spend more time with her kids, Linda took a leave of absence from the Square as she struggled to come to terms with what had happened.
While she was away, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) reopened the Vic, determined to make sure she continued to make money from the bar while also trying to raise some money to help the Slaters.
On Thursday’s (19 January) episode of the BBC One soap opera, Linda, however, learned of the former market trader’s deed and went back to the Square.
Alfie, who had planned a sizable party with a summer theme to attract business, frantically tried to explain himself, but Linda wasn’t interested and ordered everyone to leave the area right away.
After a while, Alfie came back to the bar to talk to Linda in an effort to convince her that he had no malice and was merely trying to be a friend.
In response to Linda’s observation that she simply cannot keep the pub open in the wake of Mick’s tragic passing, she found his words comforting and assured him that he could do it.
The landlady then disclosed that she had made a significant decision regarding her future and that she intended to sell the Queen Vic.
Will she actually carry out her choice? Or will Alfie be able to convince her to think twice? Who will succeed Linda if the first of those two possibilities is chosen?
Sharon Watts
Sharon has proven time and time again that she has what it takes to run Walford’s most famous bar.
Her most recent stint as a bartender in the storied soap opera occurred just three years ago, following the Carters’ temporary sale of their home and relocation.
But will she really want to return to the Vic now that her gym is doing so well?
Alfie Moon
Alfie appears to be the obvious choice to be named the new captain of the Queen Vic ship given his enormous value to the establishment over the past year.
With the takings down once more, perhaps it’s time for him to step up and prove to everyone what he’s made of? His cheeky demeanor and refusal to back down from a challenge have carried the Vic through many difficult times.
Kat Slater
Like Sharon, Kat has changed significantly since she was the last landlady of Walford’s iconic public house, but ever since Alfie made a comeback last year, she has taken on a certain penchant for thinking back on the past.
Will the owner of the cab office decide to revisit her past and reclaim the title of Queen of the Vic after more trips down memory lane? If so, will her new boyfriend Phil be there with her?
Alfie, or your only love?
Shirley Carter
Will another Carter step up now that Linda has had enough of the Vic?
Shirley left the Square over the holidays after Mick vanished, but now that EastEnders has said she’ll return at some point, could Shirl show up to make sure the Vic stays in the Carter family, as her beloved Mick would have preferred?
Suki and Nish Panesar
In addition to trying to buy the Arches and ordering the Slaters’ rent to be increased, Nish Panesar has made it abundantly clear that he enjoys being in charge.
Will he and Suki look at another property in the Square now that the sale has failed? Could the Panesars be the Vic’s potential new landlords?
All we can do is wait and see!
Karen Taylor and Mitch Baker
With Karen, Mitch, and the rest of the Taylor family behind the bar, we can’t quite imagine what the Vic would look like, but one thing is certain: chaos would be guaranteed, and chaos is always welcome!
Could Karen leave the laundromat and take on a different task? When good friend Mick allegedly dies, will Mitch leave the cab company to take over the Vic?
Emma Harding
Lola’s mother, Emma Harding, will soon make her Walford debut, playing by soap opera heiress Patsy Kensit.
We don’t yet know her character’s traits or how long she’ll be around, but given that Patsy is playing her, we think she’d be ideal for the Vic.
Time will only tell.
Sam Mitchell
Since the opening of the new wine bar Peggy’s, which has been a huge success with both the residents of Walford and the viewers at home, Sam has demonstrated that she has what it takes to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
But could she consider assuming her beloved mother’s role and taking over as landlady of the Vic?
Linda won’t actually sell – and will get a new partner
It’s possible that Linda will change her mind about selling the Vic once the initial wave of grief passes, despite the fact that there are many potential new owners for the vehicle.
Chris Clenshaw, the show’s executive producer, has promised Linda a new chapter following Mick’s departure. While he has remained mum about what lies ahead for the Vic, he has made it clear that he is looking forward to Linda’s future.
Chris, we’re the same way.
Could Linda possibly decide to stay in the bar as long as she can bring someone in to help? If this turns out to be true
Alfie is the most likely candidate given that he already works there, but Shirley and Sharon are also options. Both of them have what it takes to support Linda while managing a new phase of the pub.
You’ll just have to keep watching to find out who claims The Queen Vic because it’s an exciting time down Walford way!
