EastEnders’ businesswoman Sharon Watts will meet some of the show’s original faces at Dot Cotton’s funeral.
EastEnders’ veteran Sharon Watts (played by Letita Dean) face up to some Walford residents she has not seen in decades next week. In emotional scenes surrounding Dot Cotton’s (the late June Brown) funeral, Albert Square will come together in paying their respects. However, the funeral will not go as smoothly as planned as more characters come out of the woodwork on the BBC soap.
On the morning of Dot’s funeral, the person leading the ceremony is unprepared going into the big day.
Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) was the first person to receive the sad news of Dot’s death as she answered a phone call from Ireland.
The much missed laundrette legend moved there in 2020 to be with her grandson Charlie.
Sonia is struggling to find the words to fairly pay tribute to her step-grandmother and searches for some inspiration.
As Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) joins fellow returning resident Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) and an upset Sonia, they begin to reminisce about Dot.
Jack Branning (Simon Maslen) joins them and they all rally round to help Sonia’s case of writer’s block.
In a last minute bid to write the eulogy, she heads to the place Dot knew best – the laundrette.
With the help of Martin Fowler (James Bye) encouraging her to write from the heart, a distressed Sonia begins to make some progress.
In what will surely be emotional scenes for viewers and cast alike, Albert Square is full of those who loved Dot lining the streets.
In rare moments of unity in Walford, some familiar faces from yesteryear show their faces too.
Sharon declares her shock when Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman) joins her in saying goodbye to Dot.
She is even more surprised to see former neighbours Mary Smith (Linda Davidson) and Disa O’Brien (Jan Gravesen) make an appearance.
The Walfrod stalwardt is stunned to see the old faces and she shares an inspiring conversation with Colin.
Mary reveals that Lofty Holloway is on his way to the funeral and Sharon is moved by their efforts.
So is Sonia too, who eventually makes it to the pulpit to deliver an incredibly moving speech.
Naturally the wake takes place at The Queen Vic and the whole community shares their memories.
After the funeral, Jack praises the happiness she brought to her beloved Jim, who was Jack’s father.
Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) remembers fondly how Dot would provide a home for Disa and Donna Ludlow when everyone else turned their back.
However, one final surprise is in store, when a fancy car arrives with a man called Barry in.
Barry Clark (Gary Hailes) was the former lover of Colin, what will his return mean?
Will Walford remain united or will some old wounds be reopened?
