Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) of EastEnders and his childhood sweetheart Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) are about to fly off into the sunset and leave the square for Germany.
But she can’t possibly be planning to leave when son Ricky Jnr (Frankie Day) reveals that he has gotten 12-year-old Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) pregnant.
Maybe she can?
Ricky Jnr flees after receiving a visit from Lily warning him that the police want to speak with him. He bumps into Sam on the way and, terrified, blurts out the truth.
Sam, however, misses her opportunity to comfort her son and instead launches into a confession of her own because she is so preoccupied with worrying about how she will tell her son that she will once again be leaving him behind as she moves abroad.
When Ricky Jnr learns that his mother intends to abandon him just as he needs her most, he is devastated and terrified.
Even though Sam is known for being egotistical and has previously abandoned Ricky Jnr for extended periods of time, surely she couldn’t go to such lengths as to leave the country while her son is being prosecuted for a crime?
Will Sam seize the chance to start a new life with Ricky or will she definitively show her allegiance to her family?
