In EastEnders, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) called an unknown number in an effort to find a business partner with whom she could invest in the Vic.
There are currently two potential offers on the table for the landlady.
Her longtime best friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) has offered to invest in the bar to bail her out of a jam. Nevertheless, Nish and Suki Panesar (Navin Chowdhry and Balvinder Sopal) have also entered the race.
Sharon seems like the best option given their history, especially now that she has Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) investment in the gym, which means she has the money to purchase the Vic, but Linda is worried about Sharon’s past. They might disagree about how to run it in the future based on their previous experiences as landladies.
Nish, however, she knows absolutely nothing about, which could prove problematic in the long-run. With both potential business partners having their drawbacks, Linda decided to throw a third potential investor into the mix, making a secretive phone call.
The identity of this mysterious other person remains to be seen, and fans are already trying to solve the puzzle, with some speculating that it could be Max Branning (Jake Wood) on the other end of the phone.
Could Max be Linda’s shining knight in armor? one fan speculated on Twitter. Someone asked on social media who the landlady was calling, and another responded, “Max Branning?”
As viewers will remember, Linda slept with Max a number of years ago. Many fans disagreed with the storyline because they thought it was wildly inappropriate for the landlady, and they weren’t entirely off base.
Max left the Square when his persistent attempts to woo Linda away from Mick (Danny Dyer), her soulmate, failed, but he might be about to make a comeback in an effort to rescue Linda from her predicament.
Though we think it’s unlikely given that the person Linda was seen talking to on the phone appears to be someone she trusts and that her tone during the call suggests that they speak frequently, it is undoubtedly a possibility to consider.
Fans are aware that the matriarch has not spoken to Max since he left the family two years ago and that she fears for Annie’s safety because she never told him about her for fear that he would kidnap her, as he did with Abi, their granddaughter.
It doesn’t seem likely that Linda would think that Max, who she holds accountable for ruining her marriage, would be a safer bet to invest in her pub than Sharon, and we don’t think she’d bring him back into her life so soon after the tragic loss of her beloved Mick, which further disproves the theory.
Remember that we’re talking about EastEnders, a program that’s never short on twists, so anything is possible.
Chris Clenshaw, the boss of the serial drama, has hinted that Linda’s knight in shining armor is going to be someone unexpected, so we might be in for a surprise.
