In EastEnders, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and her ex-mother-in-law Shirley (Linda Henry) sobbed as they tried to cope with the loss of their beloved Mick (Danny Dyer).
After the truth about his new wife Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and the hell she had put Linda through was revealed over the holiday lunch, Mick vanished at sea during explosive scenes on Christmas Day.
Mick and Linda pursued Janine after she fled the scene and evaded prosecution; however, a terrifying sequence of events occurred as Janine and Linda’s landlady fell off a cliff and into the water.
Mick followed them into the water, saving Janine and their unborn child, but he later went back into the water to get his beloved L, unaware that L was still in the water. She had already reached safety.
When Linda realized what had happened, she called out for Mick, but he never answered. As a result, the coast guard was called, and search and rescue crews immediately began searching all over for the missing landlord.
But nothing was visible.
While Shirley was distraught, Linda went back to the Vic and relapsed, drinking to soothe her nerves after everything she had been through. She struggled to tell Shirley what had happened out loud.
Janine, who had returned to the bar and identified herself as the landlady, intervened, threatening to eject the two distraught women.
But Shirley responded by attempting to kill Janine with her bare hands, and Linda essentially gave her the go-ahead to do it as the ex-mom-in-law.
Harry Farr’s character Ollie showed up in the bar and asked his father to read him a bedtime story. Ollie became upset when Linda, who was devastated, told him she would be up soon and explained that “daddy” had to leave.
When he instructed Linda to “say goodnight to dad,” she broke down in tears because she knew she would have to do just that.
While Ricky (Sid Owen) called the police and Scarlett (Tabitha Byron) refused to change her story, Janine received exactly what she deserved when Linda expelled her from HIS pub. As a result, Janine was taken away by law enforcement.
Justice.
Linda and Shirley talked about the tragic events of the day while standing on the roof of the Vic as they came to terms with Mick’s passing.
