After Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) tragic disappearance, Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) was finally brought to justice on EastEnders when she was detained for obstructing justice.
As viewers are aware, the con artist put Linda (Kellie Bright) through hell earlier this year in an effort to remove her from Mick’s life.
Janine has gone to great lengths to drive a wedge between her love rival and Mick, including planting alcohol bottles on her, almost having baby Annie taken away, and framing her for a fatal car accident.
On Christmas Day, however, the truth of her deceit was revealed, and Mick struggled to comprehend who Janine really is as the scales finally begin to fall from his eyes.
Before hopping in a car and chasing after Janine, who had done a runner, the landlord reunited with his beloved ex-wife Linda. Tragically, tragedy soon struck when the car crashed into the water.
Mick ran after the car, saving Janine and his unborn child, and then got back in to get Linda, his true love, not realizing she had already made it to safety.
He disappeared forever.
The BBC One soap opera’s Boxing Day episode began several hours later, with the search and rescue teams having been unable to find the missing Mick.
Heartbroken Linda went back to the Vic, where she told Shirley (Linda Henry) what had happened and said she didn’t think her soulmate would return.
Soon after, Janine arrived and attempted to play the victim, blaming Linda for the tragedy.
Although Linda made it clear that she was content to watch the action unfold, Shirley was able to see through the con artist’s lies as she attempted to strangle Janine. Ollie’s (Harry Farr) unexpected arrival caused Shirl to stop what she was doing.
Linda thoroughly enjoyed ejecting Janine from her bar. But Janine went to Sonia’s (Natalie Cassidy), hoping to get her friend and her brother Ricky’s sympathy (Sid Owen).
When Janine attempted to convince Scarlett (Tabitha Byron) to tell the truth to the police in order to protect her reputation, Sonia and Ricky were even more horrified to learn what had transpired.
Ruthless.
Scarlett, however, refused to follow her mother’s instructions, and as a result Janine was detained and taken away in a police car while passing by her one and only love: The Vic.
Goodbye, Janine. Up until then!
