A major tragedy caused Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) to order Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) to leave EastEnders almost three years ago.
As viewers will recall, the mechanic had a passionate relationship with Sharon that ended in heartbreak when Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) learned the truth. The hard-man was then determined to exact revenge.
The plan didn’t go as planned because Keanu was able to escape his grasp and fake his own death in the process. When Keanu later returned, things got even more complicated because Phil had decided to kill his love rival for good.
In the following scenes, the two got into a fight on a boat, but the disturbance resulted in Dennis Rickman’s (Bleu Landau) tragic death scenes.
Despite having given birth to Albi, Sharon told Keanu to go right away as she tried to come to terms with losing her beloved kid.
Keanu followed her instructions and disappeared, never to be seen again. So far, at least. The well-known character returned to the Square in the BBC One soap opera on Tuesday, December 13, after being absent for over three years.
There had been no hint before the episode aired that Keanu would make a comeback, so the news left fans in awe. But he has most definitely staged a comeback.
Yet why?
Actor Danny Walters described how the decision to return to the show came about: “When I got the call from Chris [Clenshaw, EastEnders boss], he told me about some of the storylines.”
Even Chris was making some jokes, and I don’t think he had finished telling me everything. However, Chris has a fantastic vision, and I appreciate everything he’s done with it, including the writers and directors who contributed.
Therefore, I couldn’t help but want to return when I learned what he wants Keanu to do. I feel extremely fortunate to be returning in such a classic episode.
The actor went on to say, “The way I’m playing him now, there’s a new type of character that you’ll see from Keanu, a very different side to him.”
Given that Sharon and Keanu once shared a romantic relationship and a son, it goes without saying that she will play a part in his eagerly anticipated comeback.
Danny remarked, “Sharon was always the reason that Keanu had a little bit of purpose, really, and a little bit of drive.” I suppose even Keanu couldn’t explain the intense, intense attraction he felt for Sharon.
There is something he is drawn to, and I believe it is reciprocated because Sharon has someone who loves her for who she is, not just because he is younger, and that is why that relationship exists so effectively.
Keanu returned to the Square with the goal of rekindling his relationship with Sharon as well as developing a bond with his kid and making a positive impact on his life. That could be the reason.
In the Taylor family, Keanu has always been the head of the home. Because he has never had a father figure in his life, I have always assumed the role of his absent father.
He reverts to his old routines because he fears becoming like his father and makes an effort to break these routines. I believe he had time to reflect and mature when he was in Portugal and away from the Square.
Then he came to the realization that he had to take control of his own destiny. There was only one option, and that was to return to the Square and face the consequences.
But what specifically can we anticipate when he meets Phil?
We should anticipate fireworks when Phil returns, Danny teased.
