Again, Janine Butcher was able to get away with lying on EastEnders without being exposed.
By telling the pub last week that she is having a baby with Mick Carter despite having not even told her young daughter about the exciting news at the time, the villain has managed to alienate daughter Scarlett.
Since then, Scarlett has heard Linda Carter casually predict with her friend Sharon Watts that Janine will likely forget about her older daughter once the baby is born.
In the episode that aired on Tuesday (September 27), Linda made an effort to mend fences with Scarlett by taking the time to hear her worries about her mother having a child with Mick.
Scarlett questioned whether Linda was possibly correct that Janine had resumed neglecting her, but Linda assured her that Mick would never permit such behavior.
Scarlett was moved by Linda’s generosity to the point where she began to comment that her mother should have disclosed something.
Scarlett, however, changed her mind and bolted as Linda pressed her about what Janine might have been concealing.
Viewers will recall that Linda has long suspected Janine of setting her up with child services last month, but she is still in the dark about her rival’s involvement in the drink-driving arrest earlier this year.
Janine was busy preparing for the big night when Mick would formally meet Scarlett and the young Carters. Janine hurried off to find her daughter as soon as she learned Linda was with Scarlett.
Scarlett had also taken the photo of Frankie out of her bag, which showed her mother getting rid of the clothes she had worn the night of the drunk driving accident.
Back at Linda, Scarlett muttered that if Mick ever learned what Janine had done, he would leave them. Janine arrived just as she was about to reveal the truth, packing up her daughter and leaving before it could be said.
How long will Janine’s secrets remain a secret when actor Charlie Brooks is reportedly planning to leave the soap opera once more?
