In recent months, EastEnders’ Jay Brown has made an effort to be as resilient as he can be for his ailing wife Lola Pearce.
Tragically, Danielle Harold’s on-screen character Lola recently learned that her cancer treatment is no longer effective. In wrenching EastEnders scenes, Jay (Jamie Borthwick) made a commitment to support and love her no matter what. Despite some initial misgivings, Jay has come to accept that Lola’s estranged mother Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) might be beneficial for his wife. However, Jay’s misgivings are once more stoked in upcoming episodes of the BBC soap opera.
A focused Lola is busy preparing for her charity fundraising event in yet-to-air scenes.
She is abruptly stopped in her tracks, though, when the hospital requests that she arrive early for a scheduled appointment.
Jay tries to keep his worries from an alarmed Lola while still being upbeat about the visit.
Despite the uncertainty, Lola is adamant that she wants to continue with the fundraiser.
Later, Lola approaches Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) and requests permission to use Peggy’s for the occasion, but Sam refuses.
Before Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) intervenes and assures Lola that Peggy’s is hers for free if she needs it, Lola lashes out.
While Sam, who is intoxicated, is left feeling humiliated by her brother’s repeated undermining of her, she is touched by Phil’s generosity.
Lola is still committed to moving forward with her fundraiser.
Lola is overcome with emotion when she learns that Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown), with whom she has been arguing with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) about prioritizing their daughter, still thinks she will get better.
Later, Lola’s unwavering support from her family brings tears to her eyes.
Following a hugely successful fundraiser, Lola invites Emma to spend the evening with her and Lexi at home.
When Emma awkwardly rejects the offer, Jay becomes concerned.
He worries that Emma won’t see the end because she won’t be able to handle Lola’s deteriorating health.
Emma is confronted by Jay, but she decides to take a solace in The Vic and confides in Sam about her mother guilt.
Will she ultimately decide to stay and see things through until her daughter’s life is over?
If Emma departs, Lola will be devastated and unable to handle the circumstances.
However, Emma will soon leave the soap opera. Actress Patsy announced last month that she had completed filming her last scenes.
The actress shared a photo of herself boarding a plane on Instagram in February.
She captioned the post: “We’re leaving on a jet plane! Don’t know when I’ll be back again… Going to the heat.
“Great news this Friday that my severe chest infection I’ve nursed since December has now been diagnosed and I’m on the right antibiotics and need to convalesce for a bit and will be right back on my feet!!!
