After three years, EastEnders actress Milly Zero reportedly decided to leave her role as Dotty Cotton on the BBC soap opera.
As Dot Cotton’s (June Brown) granddaughter, EastEnders star Milly Zero stormed into Walford three years ago, but things haven’t been smooth since. She has been the subject of some complex plots, such as an affair with Keegan Butcher-Baker (Zack Morris) and participation in a fraud scheme with her uncle Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley). Though her final scenes have reportedly already been shot, the actress is reportedly planning to leave the soap opera at the end of the year.
The Sun learned from a source that “After Dot’s funeral, Dotty will soon leave Albert Square.
“However, the door is left open in case she comes back. This is not Dotty’s last farewell.”
She leaves the soap after Dot Cotton, a legend, bids farewell after actress June Brown passed away earlier this year.
She recently announced the news on Instagram and stated in a statement: “After three and a half years, I’ve come to the conclusion that my relationship with Dotty Cotton, a cultural icon, is over. I can’t even begin to express how incredible and life-changing my time on EastEnders has been, or how much I will miss it, but I am now prepared for new challenges.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make it so special; I have made lifelong friends, learned a ton, and created lifelong memories. She exits with a bang, and I can’t wait for you all to see it!” (sic)
When Dot left for Ireland to see her grandson Charlie Cotton Jr. (Declan Bennett), she was last spotted in Albert Square in 2020.
Recently, Mille opened up to The Sun about the feelings they experienced while filming scenes for Dot’s funeral.
It was a very emotional day, she said. We actually sobbed during the filming because it is such a lovely tribute to her.
The episode contains parts that will make you laugh. On set, June was frequently mischievous and would alter the script’s words, but that was just June.
She would have adored witnessing our collective union for the episode. Playing her granddaughter makes me incredibly proud; it’s a dream role. We will never forget her.
To ensure that viewers would never forget Dot’s funeral, managers would have gone above and beyond.
Express.co.uk has gotten in touch with the BBC for a response.
The upcoming winter storylines on the BBC One soap will pay tribute to Dot by having the character pass away in Ireland and have her funeral in Walford.
Old favorites like Lofty Holloway (Tom Watt), Mary “The Punk” Smith (Linda Davidson), Disa O’Brien (Jan Graveson), Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman CBE), and Barry Clark (Gary Hailes) are likely to return for the emotional scenes to say goodbye.
Another of Dot Cotton’s stepgrandchildren, Lauren Branning, will be played by Jacqueline Jossa when she returns.
Dotty might experience a loss so great that she feels forced to leave the square in search of a new beginning.
She might be able to get some time to herself by putting some distance between herself and the memories.
Jacqueline recently talked about going back to Walford and said she felt “bittersweet” about it.
She stated to The Mirror that returning to EastEnders for Dot’s funeral was a no-brainer and that being invited back was a true honor. I had a great time, but it was unavoidably bittersweet.
“It was wonderful to be back, but it was difficult to be filming this plot. I can now assure the audience that Dot receives the lovely send-off she so richly deserves. The month of June shone brightly on EastEnders.
When talking about her interactions with June, Jacquiline said: “Because of her amazing stories and her contagious enthusiasm and wit, working with her was a blast. June is a living legend, and I sincerely miss her.”
This winter, viewers will be able to watch Dot Cotton’s funeral.
June played the character of Dot for 35 years, and after marrying Jim Branning (John Barton) in 2002, she became a member of the Branning family.
Her family expressed their “deep sadness” at learning that their “beloved mother” passed away earlier this year in a “very peaceful” manner at home.
