When Vicki Michelle joins EastEnders as Rocky Cotton’s ex-wife next month, she’s sure to stir things up.
Vicki Michelle, a legendary figure in show business, has joined the cast of EastEnders as Jo Cotton, Rocky Cotton’s ex-wife (played by Brian Conley). Rocky and Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) are currently engaged, but she is having trouble getting him to set a wedding date. Jo’s arrival will undoubtedly surprise the owner of the café because she is not aware of his previous marriage.
Vicki said of her participation in the program: “I’m so excited to be in EastEnders, and everyone has been so lovely.
“Jo Cotton is a wonderful character, and the plot is fantastic. The moment the audience gets to see her, the better.
Rocky and Jo reportedly wed more than 25 years ago, but little is known about their prior union.
He wasn’t even a Cotton when he first came to the Square; instead, he was pretending to be Sonia Fowler’s father (Natalie Cassidy).
Later it was revealed that he was Dotty’s uncle and half-brother to Nick Cotton (John Altman) (Milly Zero).
Dotty had brought him to the Square in an effort to coerce Sonia into paying money that she thought was her grandmother Dot Cotton’s inheritance (June Brown).
The Square turned against him when his true identity was made known, disgusted by the way he had played with Sonia’s emotions.
He eventually made amends, earned everyone’s love once more, and ever since has been a pillar of the Square.
In an official statement EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: “Vicki is the perfect fit to take on the elusive character of Rocky’s wife that we know very little about.
“Brash, quick-witted, and extremely glamorous, Jo is akin to her long-lost husband, Rocky.
“As you would expect she is immediately thrown into the heart of the drama when she arrives in Walford.”
Speaking on Loose Women on Friday, Chris added: “She’s [Vicki] a hoot and the scenes with Jo with Rocky with Kathy are just magnificent.”
Despite having a distinguished career on both the big and small screens, Michelle is best known for playing Yvette Carte-Blanche in the adored, BAFTA-nominated BBC comedy series Allo! Allo!
She previously played Patricia Foster in a recurring role in Emmerdale, so this isn’t her first time appearing in a soap opera.
She has additionally appeared in a number of TV shows, including The Professionals, George and Mildred, and the cult favorite The Likely Lads.
She participated in the fourteenth season of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2014, where she was the fourth celebrity eliminated.
Since 1974, she has been wed to director of photography Graham Fowler.
A daughter named Louise, also known as Louise Michelle, was born to the couple in 1989.
She received an MBE in 2010 for her charitable contributions.
