Jennie McAlpine, who portrays Fiz Stape on the soap opera Coronation Street, is expecting her third child with husband Chris Farr.
Jennie McAlpine, a star of Coronation Street, has spoken out about how the ITV soap has hidden her growing baby bump from onlookers on the cobblestones.
With her husband Chris Farr, the 38-year-old actress who portrays Fiz Stape on the soap opera is expecting their third child.
On Friday afternoon’s episode of Loose Women, the former I’m A Celebrity campmate joined panelists Linda Robson, Nadia Sawalha, and Carol McGiffin as well as host Kaye Adams.
Before Linda said she frequently used a large shopping bag to do the same thing during her time on Birds of a Feather, Jennie explained how her scenes on the soap now frequently show her with a washing basket in her hands to cover the bump.
“Last time, I’m not kidding, with baby number two, we hid the bump behind a Ford Fiesta,” Jennie continued.
“The director said, ‘I think it would be nice if we had that car a little further into the shot’.
“Even the writers have put in a lot more ‘Fiz brings the washing in’ – there’s a lot more of that at the start of the script.
“I feel like she does a lot of washing anyway, but she’s going to be doing a lot more.”
In order for the actress to give birth and take maternity leave, Jennie’s character Fiz will soon need to “disappear,” and she already knows how the soap’s producers intend to incorporate this into the plot of her newlywed character.
She added: “Obviously the other thing is that everything has to be somewhat of a moveable feast because hopefully the baby behaves and everything occurs at the appropriate time. There’s a strategy.
Jennie and her husband, who wed in 2017 and already have two children together in the form of son Albert, 8, and daughter Hilda, 4, have chosen to keep the gender of their unborn child a surprise until the big day.
Her daughter’s name Hilda was inspired by Corrie character Hilda Ogden, who was played by the late Jean Alexander.
Jennie previously said she wouldn’t rule out using the ITV soap as inspiration again, telling the OK! magazine: “I can probably guarantee that whatever the name we choose, it will have been a character in Corrie – I don’t know how to avoid it!
“It just feels really nice. We’re so over the moon. The thought of adding to our family mix and chaos was the best Christmas present! I’m really excited for 2023 – it’ll be a special one.”
