Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape from Coronation Street are frequently contrasted with the famous couple Jack and Vera Duckworth.
After a 21-year on-off relationship, Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape from Coronation Street (Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine) wed on Christmas day.
It’s common to compare their relationship to Jack and Vera Duckworth’s (William Tarmey and Elizabeth Dawn) marriage, but Alan Halsall recently said he didn’t think anyone could “touch” what they had.
Tyrone, who used to be Jack and Vera’s lodger, now lives with Tyrone and Fiz, who were like parents to him.
When Vera passed away in 2008 after a 50-year marriage, Jack continued to live with Tyrone and his then-girlfriend Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns).
The writers at the time reunited the couple for the poignant scenes depicting Jack’s passing because they were so well-known and adored by viewers.
Jack fell asleep as he sat by himself in the home he’d shared for so long with his wife, dreaming that Vera was there with him as he peacefully passed away.
Recently, Alan and Fiz discussed their relationship with Tyrone and Fiz and firmly asserted that they would never be as well-known as Jack and Vera.
Alan said to the press, including Express.co.uk: “To be completely honest, I try to avoid it whenever possible.
“Jack and Vera were on their own out there for me. They are absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. Although I’d like to be Tyrone and Fiz, I don’t believe anyone can compete with Jack and Vera.”
And Jennie said: “Absolutely, but it’s also nice to be asked that and to know that we’ve always remembered them—especially given Tyrone’s history with them.
“We still have their bar because we had to live in their house, which is a real treat, and their picture is still on the wall in our home.
“And what is so unique about Corrie and 60 or so years later is that we carry on and we evolve because that is what happens in life, but to remember that past is lovely and I hope we never stop doing that,” the author said.
In their 21 years as a screen couple, Alan and Jennie have admitted that they have kissed each other more than anyone else.
“It’s fascinating. We recently conducted an interview where we got to see our very first kiss, which occurred 21 years ago.
“So yeah, it’s crazy, but I’ve probably been kissing Jenny longer than I have anyone else in my life.
The two of them have come so close so many times, but at least this time they succeed.
The couple wed on Christmas Day after going through a difficult couple of years. Tyrone had secretly married his soul mate.
Fiz went missing for a few hours, and in true Coronation Street fashion, he briefly believed she had dumped him at the altar.
Tyrone’s effort left Fiz feeling deflated, so she left their house on Christmas morning to look for a turkey. However, the car broke down, leaving Fiz stranded without her phone.
Fiz arrived in time for the ceremony to take place, and Tyrone was able to witness the marriage thanks to a Christmas miracle.
Michael Le Vell’s character, Kevin Webster, spoke later as the Rovers were celebrating their special day and mentioned Jack and Vera, who had been “looking out for them” from the other side.
