Martin Platt of Coronation Street may have long since left the cobbles, but in an exclusive interview with thesuns.info, the actor who played him talked about a potential comeback.
In November 2005, Sean Wilson’s character Martin Platt and his new partner Robyn left Coronation Street. Martin’s choice devastated his son David (Jack P Shepherd), and the two of them went a while without speaking. Fortunately, they made up just before he left. When David underwent a traumatic storyline in 2018, he later made a comeback on the ITV soap.
When Sean joined Coronation Street for the first time in 1985, he was 18 years old, had just finished high school, and had accepted a job at the cafe run by Gail Tilsley (Helen Worth).
Gail was widowed five years later, at which point Martin and Gail began dating. They later became parents together.
Sean departed the cobbles in 2005 but later returned when Martin’s son David underwent a terrifying rape plot.
Sean addressed whether he would ever return to acting in an exclusive interview with thesuns.info after taking a break.
There were stories about Sean’s departure in 2018 and a specific plot line.
Well, I made it clear when I returned in 2018 that I wouldn’t be able to move forward with any sort of editorial improvement in my circumstance, he remarked.
Later, he continued, “You know what? Even when the character returned in 2018, people still adored him.
“The powers that be” decide.
Sean continued, when asked if he would ever consider acting again in general: “Yeah, we’re always looking for acting jobs.
“And I would have been working for years if I wanted to go on tour around the UK 12 times a year.
But I don’t want to spend the entire year away from home.
“You don’t come back with very much after paying for digs and travel,” the speaker said.
Sean’s career has completely changed since leaving Corrie as he not only became a successful chef but also fell in love with cheese.
Recently, the former soap opera star published a new book in which he discussed his love of dairy products.
The Martin Platt actor said of his new book, “Cheddar Gorged was a title I came up with.
I have, of course, judged cheese competitions around the world for the past 14 or so years.
“I therefore began with some poetry. Instead of bombarding readers with a ton of technical details, I started with a poem that expresses my thoughts on cheddar in exact terms.
“That’s how I started reading the book, and the poem’s conclusion pretty much explains that there are four stages of cheese that correspond to the four stages of life.
You realize you’re reading a different kind of cheddar book all of a sudden.
